    REALLY!!! $200 gas tax.

That would be the state Department of Licensing, I think, at least in Washington. I'm definitely not thrilled with the idea of the state having GPS tracking of my car, although they could doubtless buy the same info from a data broker for my phone locations. Odometer readings would presumably...

    Kia Niro BEV

Which forum do you like for Kia? One of my favorite hobbies is kayaking, so I prefer a vehicle that has a low roof to make getting the boats on and off easier. (I'm currently nursing along a 20 year old Taurus wagon as my primary boat hauler.) That makes SUVs unattractive. Even the original...

Does ECO mode really reduce HVAC power consumption? What about the stealth "partial recirc?"

Thanks. Nice to know my brief observations weren't wrong. Pretty sure I had the heat pump mode on. I'll have to try it again with AC and Heat both on to see if I can catch the resistance heater consumption changing.

    Kia Niro BEV

As you say, it would be very easy to arrange a level floor: cut a piece of 3/8" plywood the length of the floor and aboout 3/4 of the width, screw a couple of pieces of 2x4 on transversely and drop a hunk of 2" memory foam on top of it if you like comfort. I say transversely and 3/4 width...

Does ECO mode really reduce HVAC power consumption? What about the stealth "partial recirc?"

I virtually never use ECO mode in my July 2013 Leaf SV. In a "recent" ECO mode thread, it was stated that ECO reduces power consumption by the HVAC system. I briefly tried monitoring this in LeafSpy and did not see a difference in wattage indicated for heat or A/C. I'll admit I spent very...

How often do you drive without ECO?

It makes the power response exponential rather than linear. The outputs only match at 0% and 100% pedal travel. The Eco response is less anywhere else, which makes the curve flatter near zero (smoother inputs) and steeper in the last bit.

How often do you drive without ECO?

I always forget about this. I try to avoid using the defogger (i.e. I run the system with Heat on and AC off when possible) but when it's 45° and raining and our clothes are wet, that isn't practical. I should see how much using ECO helps when it's wet since running the AC really bites into...

2013-2014 bar losers and capacity losses

If I drive to work (steep downhill first quarter mile, nearly flat six miles, very slight uphill last 200 yards) and charge to 100%, my GOM usually reads about 86 miles. Some day I'd like to get on I-5 and drive north on cruise control for 42 miles at 47 MPH and see if I can actually achieve...

2013-2014 bar losers and capacity losses

My July 2013 car just lost bar 11 at almost exactly 80,000 miles. I'd been expecting it to go for over a year, so no complaints!

2016-2017 model year 30 kWh bar losers and capacity losses

Dang, I didn't realize they were already at that stage in the life cycle. Not that I've been shopping seriously for a car. I was just browsing the specs on a few models recently for fun. But everything peripheral on the 20-year-old Ford is crap now: a couple of the instrument panel lights...

2016-2017 model year 30 kWh bar losers and capacity losses

How do you like the Niro? We are limping along with the old Leaf around town and a couple of aging ICEVs for longer duty. If the 2002 Taurus wagon gives any more trouble, I'm going to be tempted to give it away. It might be good to replace it with a Niro plug-in hybrid. My main recreational...

2016-2017 model year 30 kWh bar losers and capacity losses

I mostly don't follow, of late! My 2013 has been humming along adequately and hasn't required a lot of attention. I logged in today mainly to look up the Honda wiper blade refill number I needed.

I guess I need to read those emails from AutoWeek more closely!

2013-2014 bar losers and capacity losses

I'm not complaining. For practical purposes, the car is as useful as when I got it, which means I can still get from my home in Ballard (Seattle) to Issaquah High School and trailheads and other attractions near there without too much attention to my speed on the freeway, meaning I stay below...

2013-2014 bar losers and capacity losses

I've been expecting bar 11 to drop from my 2013 for the past year. At this point, I'm pleasantly surprised every day it doesn't happen! Yesterday LeafSpy said ODO 73,151 AHr 52.3 SOH 80.0 Hx 71.5 Is the increasing difference between SOH and Hx typical over time? When I first got the car five...
