    Considering a used leaf -- 2015 lizard, or 2016+ 30kWH?

If you can save a few thousand dollars on a nice condition 2015 Lizard, I'd probably go that route since you don't really need the range. The Lizard is so stable compared to unknown quantities like the 30 kW-hr batteries, you can at least rely on known degradation that should serve you well for...

    End of Lease Strategies?

I posted about this a page or two ago, but this option only existed when Nissan offered Gross Payoff (GPO) discounts on Leaf's. That ended back in October 2018, so right now you either pay the full residual or you turn the car back in. Nothing in between. Keith

    End of Lease Strategies?

It took a while, but I did finally get around to discussing with a local dealer about this. He had to call the helpline to get a clear answer on the GPO discounts, but the answer looks to be that October 2018 was the last month of the discount. So currently the options are contract residual...

    End of Lease Strategies?

So is it confirmed that all the gross payoff amount discounts are totally gone? Our 2015 SV lease is up next month, so that'd be lousy timing if so. At that point, it'll be a binary choice of either buying the car for the residual plus the usual fees or just turning it in. Hmmmm.... Keith

    End of Lease Strategies?

OK, I'll hunt around for a friendly dealer and see if I can get the same info. Any advantage to starting early? Ie, if there's a particular month where there are favorable buyout discounts, should I end the lease early and buy it then? Does this sheet showing discounts even exist each month...

    End of Lease Strategies?

Thanks for sharing the example of some gross payoff discount info from this last summer. My question to the group: is there a way to know this info for any given moment? Our lease is up this coming February, and we're a little on the fence about whether we'll buy our 2015 SV at that time...

    2018 Leaf

My point was merely that the problem with getting good lease deals on a 2018 Leaf isn't the fact that someone is in Virginia- it's that the 2018 Leaf just launched and is brand new. And it's often very challenging to get reasonable lease deals on anything that's brand new, regardless of the...

    2018 Leaf

Yes, but not impossible. We're in VA and are currently leasing a 2015 SV w/ Prem for $198/mo with nothing down other than first month's payment. But good lease deals on EV's in Virginia take a lot more work than for the same car on SoCal. Keith

So, any speculation on charger size on 2018 Leaf

In truth, it's probably because we have a 7.7 kW Clipper Creek in the garage, and perhaps I just like the thought of being able to make use of all of it. In practical terms, especially with a 40 kW-hr battery's range, I suspect you're right. Keith

So, any speculation on charger size on 2018 Leaf

I'm a little surprised they didn't bump it to 7.2 or 7.7 kW. The new VW eGolf has a 7.2 kW on even the base version. But I guess the new Leaf is really somewhere between a mid-cycle refresh and a full on redesign. So lots of components probably got kept. Keith

    Goodbye Leaf, Hello Volt

Do keep in mind that you can't transfer in the first 6 months or the last year. So you have a good 1.5 year window to make that happen is your Model 3 (magically) comes through in a reasonable period of time. ;) Keith

    Goodbye Leaf, Hello Volt

I can relate- the only difference is we now have both. Also used the Asian Competitive Lease incentive to get a good lease deal on a Volt LT (well, good by Virginia non-CARB standards- we don't nearly the incentives of the CARB states). So the Volt is what I'm driving every day whereas my wife...

Thinking about a Leaf? Read this first

GIven the success that 2011/2012 owners had with battery degradation in BBB arbitration, this seems like the right approach. If anything, your case is even stronger than theirs because you have a new car with substantial range loss instead of a car that lost range over months and years. And if...

    Heated Steering Wheel Behavior Change?

I've had times where ours will get pleasantly warm and stay at a more or less consistent temperature. Other times it will get roaringly hot and then cool down to barely above ambient. Go figure. Keith

NissanConnect EV / Telematics Hardware Update, for the post-2G world

Had the 3G module put in yesterday along with the occupant sensor recall. Took less than 2 hours for everything, which is faster than I expected. I knew it would take a little while for the new 3G module to get activated on the network, so I didn't even try to log it in until this afternoon...
