Nissan, like every car maker, has to up their CAFE numbers. Therefore, the easiest way to do this, besides EV's, are hybrids. As for hydrogen, if car makers really thought it was the way to go, they wouldn't be working with their competitors to get there.

When we turn on the AC, there is a motorized noise that sounds bad, almost a grinding noise. No problem with the fan, but AC now emits this noise, and we turn it off immediately. Any ideas?

Inverter costs depend upon brand/model/capacity. The Xantrex GT series ranges from 2.8Kw @$2375, 3.3Kw @$2875, 3.8Kw @$3130, 4.0Kw @$3130, to 5.0Kw @$3950 plus labor, but can be found on sale from $1653(2.8Kw) to $2749(5K) or so. Same with Fronius, 2Kw @$1686 to 5Kw @$3933 at sale pricing...

The inverter is the biggest maintenance item, typically needing replacement every 12 years or so. They normally come with a 10 year warranty. The other thing to watch is the roof condition, it may need to be replaced, which means having to remove the panels and reinstall them at some point...

I received my true-up for the year from PG&E today. The total electrical consumption for the year was $-8.54. This includes charging our Leaf nightly since April 26. That means that the over 5K miles driven in the Leaf have been FREE! Previous gas cost was $200/month, previous electric bill...

It's wonderful! Since getting our Leaf in late April, PG&E has been paying us to drive everyday--now over 5K miles! This will actually be our first yearly true up where we will come out ahead for the whole year--didn't expect that on the year we added an EV!
