I loss another battery capacity bar

Gulp ! I'm seeing 9 bars to 80% almost consistently now (been 2 weeks). 14k mi and 18 months of use since our 1-4-11 purchase date. I run about 37 mi/day, charge 6 days per week. 65 mph to work (and folks are riding my butt and scowling at me) and about 72-73 mph home (that's the San Diego...

Nissan needs to have a serious talk with Thane C. Heins

Being a power systems engineer myself for the past 31 years I agree with you wholeheartedly Phil. He is unclear and inconsistent in the terms he uses and flips switches to act like he has something special going on. I just can't imagine you get something from nothing as he is purporting (or he...

wasting money on 30 amp units ??

In DEC 2010 at the Nissan design center here in San Diego, Mark Perry told me Nissan is planning on making available an upgrade to the 3.3 kW charger on the LEAF. Maybe they've changed their minds since then but this is the story he personally told me at that time. Malcolm :geek:

What is your guaranteed, worst-case, no-anxiety range?

50 mi (81 km) from 80% charge. Car has 9k+ mi (14.6k km), solo, in San Diego, CA, USA, minimal elevation change but some, winter, 58 deg F (14.4 deg C) daytime, 40 deg F (4.4 deg C) nighttime, coming home in the dark, climate control on auto at 75 deg F (24 deg C), lights on, wipers on, raining...

Parking Brake auto-release only works when seat belts buckle

Yes. That is indicated in the manual as I recall. Malcolm :geek:

SDG&E Introduces New EV Rate Sept. 1, 2011

Don't forget, the cost of capital recovery (for distribution and transmission facilities) is done over time. Facilities installed (for the sake of discussion here) over the last couple of years, still have 28-38 years left to fully be recovered in rates. To say, "...there is no distribution cost...

"No Market Need" for longer range EVs - Nissan's Mark Perry

Heh, Heh. Well stated Boomer. I agree with you. For "hundreds" he may be on to something but a few more miles of range would be desireable... say, 1.5x the 70 freeway miles I currently get (68-73 mph with full a/c and radio). It would cost but that's why the option would exist. Some would...

LEAF crime - stolen HOV decal

Nobody's getting my stickers. I keep 'em secure in the envelope in the trunk of my LEAF ! Malcolm :geek:

    My L1 ESVE findings.....

Good deal Jack. One thing I don't hear anyone talking about is the EVSE temperature after some period of charging. Last night I took my Ingineer modified, 240v, 12a Panasonic EVSE and decided to charge my car from 1 bar to 12 bars at about 75% of the Blink charge rate. I did this test because...

    Battery died, 1st time experience.

Tony, If I get this data right, worst case, I can expect 10.2 mi after I hit low battery before I get to turtle. Is this correct? tx Malcolm :geek:

    Acceleration pedal calibration problems ?

It's the normal deal adric. Maximo torque-age these "'lectric" motors have. Cool huh. If it's not your style, use ECO mode and it basically goes away. Me, my ankle gets tired using ECO mode any more but that translates into me being a lucky LEAF owner with only a 34 mile daily freeway...

What is the actual miles from a full charge on the freeway

hmmm... but that just gives you 1300 with units of mph squared. no? I'm still thinking the 36% increase in energy is correct still (but still might be convinced otherwise). Macolm :geek:

80% Charging anytime, all the time

That's funny. When I spoke with a Nissan VP of product planning (electrical engineer) in January after I bought my LEAF he indicated that they were concerned about the driver who wanted to go from San Francisco to San Diego using QC the whole way. Seems Nissan has quite a lot of VP's. Seems...

What is the actual miles from a full charge on the freeway

I was taught it's the square of the velocity ratio... (70/60)^2=1.361. That's 36% more. What am I missing? Malcolm :geek:
