For those in Australia, Graeme suggests, in his interview with Robert Llewellyn, that they will (or perhaps do) battery upgrades for the Leaf:

I think the 'Edison Battery' is nickel-iron, whereas Prof. Allen is shooting for 'iron-iron' or something similar. So there is a difference. In any event, it appears to be worth watching. We donated $25.00 to the effort.
