L1 charging time with 6.6KW charger

Your'e right; guess I jumped the gun on this. I thought there was a news item saying this would be in the 2012 models, but it looks like it will be 2013 at the earliest. Oh, well... my bad.

Failure to Understand Macro-issues for Recharging Networks

It's Nissan's own FAQ that suggests renters could use QC stations. I see your point. It'll be tough going until there's a way of fully charging an EV in just minutes... hence the OP. Delayed gratification sucks.

Failure to Understand Macro-issues for Recharging Networks

Yep, that's the document I was thinking of. Guess I didn't properly understand the verbiage of it... thanks for the clarification.

L1 charging time with 6.6KW charger

Does that mean that the current L2 EVSE will also need to be upgraded to take advantage of the 6.6KW charger?

Failure to Understand Macro-issues for Recharging Networks

It's my understanding that a bill was just passed in California which says, in essence, that renters have a right to request and be provided with EV charging facilities. You'll still have to wrangle with the manager/property owners over who pays for what, L2 versus L1, and deal with the red tape...

L1 charging time with 6.6KW charger

With the 6.6KW charger, will the L1 charging time be cut in half as well as L2 charging?

Doubling EV range with solid state batteries

Failure to Understand Macro-issues for Recharging Networks

Isn't this another chicken-and-egg thing? If w're thinking about doing this at all, shouldn't we start hashing the mechanical standards out now, before there are EV's with dozens of chassis designs and using battery packs with different form factors on the road? Also wanted to point out that...

What if you want L2 and your home's not wired for 220?

All good points, although with my modest commute (20 mile round trip to work on surface streets) I'd probably only have to drag the thing out once or twice a week. That being said, I would certainly prefer a more straightforward charging method, and to that end, I'm approaching the issue on a...

What if you want L2 and your home's not wired for 220?

Not a bad idea. But since my assigned parking space doesn't have an AC outlet, Randmac's solution might be more practical.

What if you want L2 and your home's not wired for 220?

Wow... this could be just what I'm looking for. All I'd have to do is talk the landlord into letting me mooch off an existing AC outlet here and there, then wheel the thing out to my car and charge. No muss, no fuss. Thanks for the heads-up!

What if you want L2 and your home's not wired for 220?

Actually, I live in an apartment, which I know is a huge strike against me. But in poking around the building, I found that the washers/dryers in the laundry rooms are plugged into 110v outlets, which led me to believe there's no 220 coming in. I have no idea where the main panel/breakers are...

What if you want L2 and your home's not wired for 220?

Did a search and didn't find a specific answer to this. Does this leave you completely SOL? Or can your local utility get a 220 tap off the utility pole, and if so, how many gazillions of $$ would this cost?

Where are all the public stations in Los Angeles?

IIRC the EV Project started in October 2009 and is supposed to last about 3 years. So they've got roughly another 1 1/2 years to make good. There's also this...

Agreed. To paraphrase a line from Jerry Maguire, "Show me the infrastructure!"

    Banding together against "range anxiety"

At the risk of being OT, maybe the best solution to range anxiety would be better mass transit (especially high-speed rail) here in the U.S. The range issue has been trotted out ad nauseum as one of the reasons we haven't had a mass market EV until now. And even if the Leaf proves to be a...

    CNN piece on Range Anxiety

For the last 9 years (about twice as long as I've kept any other car) I've been driving a 2002 Toyota Prius. It has been thoroughly reliable, and I average upwards of about 400 miles per tank. I'd originally planned to keep this car indefinitely... and then the Leaf came on the scene. I've...

Future Nissan corporate involvement with LEAF owners?

After I took the test drive, I got a follow-up email from Nissan in which there was an offer to become an online research panelist, wherein I'd get to participate in a special survey on a roughly monthly basis. I signed up, but it remains to be seen whether this will be interactive in any way.

Logistics of building out a charging infrastructure

If the DOE and auto makers are serious about creating a viable EV infrastructure, they're going to have to tackle the issue (thorny though it may be) of getting charging docks into apartment complexes... especially in California, which is supposed to be Ground Zero for reducing the carbon...

Logistics of building out a charging infrastructure

    1. Do you own or rent the residence where the LEAF™ EVSE will be installed? --Own --Rent Selecting "Rent" would have resulted in this response: They may have changed the questions since then so that renters can apply. When did you reserve your LEAF? The difference may be...
