Leafspy & relay chatter under the hood?

It's been explained in the past somewhere on here. The relay chatters to make sure the host computer has power during critical data read in case of loss of supply power. It is caused by Leaf's software, not Leafspy. My 2011 SL does it. I found that disabling Bluetooth on my phone instantly stops...

Health effects of driving around in an EV

I can vouch that switching to EV improves mental health. I no longer want to road rage when stuck in traffic. Stop and go in a Leaf is relaxing, compared to constant automatic gear shifting in my old gas car. Never again.

Cooling battery with home central air conditioner

It would not work the same. Right now I am pumping 62F air directly at the top cover of the battery pack. My garage ambient temp is 83F with 90F air outside. I would have to cool the entire garage down to 62F to get equivalent battery cooling effect. My entire house it at 77 - 79F. I do not...

Cooling battery with home central air conditioner

Thanks! I bought my 2011 SL at 75k miles and 91 SOH battery (58.7Ah, 87.2Hx) with original battery already replaced at 59k miles. I am not aware of any warrany it still may have, so I assume this second battery will be the last free one. I hope to extend the life of this battery to allow enogh...

Cooling battery with home central air conditioner

Not much difference, maybe 2F cooler, depending how hot it was when I got there. Usually still around 93 - 95F. Can't think of any negative effects to my AC, the same air that would usually just flow into the garage is now flowing through the Leaf first, then returning back to the house. By...

Cooling battery with home central air conditioner

Hi everyone. Summer is here in full swing in south FL and my Leaf's battery temps are holding around 90 - 100F around the clock. Seeing how I lost about 3% of my battery capacity last summer, and winter loss was basically flat, I could not let my battery rot in the heat again this year. So I...

    Original Brakes at 70K

I am at 92K miles on my 2011 SL. My brake pads look identical to those pictured.

    Car sear covers

Got them few weeks ago. Been super busy at work. I tried quickly fitting them to a driver seat, but it was not straightforward due to no way to route seat cover straps between back rest and the seat. I will have to make small cuts in the seat fabric to make openings for the straps. The seat...

5 Minute Cycle Timer to Charge Leaf - Is it safe?

Does your water heater have two 4.5kW heating elements? If so, you could connect them in series and get 2.3 kW total water heater load.

    Disable VSP sound by software

Is it possible to turn on VSP sound via the VSP OFF button after this hack?

    Lubricating the EVSE plug

Well, in that case, do not use these plugs. They are poorly engineered cheap Chinese knockoffs. Stock Yazaki plugs do not need to apply such strong clamping force on their sockets and they work fine at 30A. I had them tested at 50A without much overheating at the pins. When I ordered OpenEVSE...

    Lubricating the EVSE plug

If I remember right, I think I took them off, stretched them out a bit with reverse pliers and put them back in. They no longer apply spring force on the 4 contact socket "leaves", but serve as assurance to prevent any one "leaf" from bending out due to charge port pin misalignment upon plug...

    Brake Failure

Wow, this is bad. You have 2012 SL, correct? Who is your insurance company?

    Highest Safe Storage Charge

Yes. As low as possible while still being usable. I try to keep mine at 20 - 30% SOC on days when I am at home, while having just enough charge to run to a store or something. I would make a guess that all current lithium batteries share similar degradation pattern. Lets look at behavior of...

5 Minute Cycle Timer to Charge Leaf - Is it safe?

Another idea is to add a micro controller circuit to intercept and modify PWM duty cycle of pilot signal to fool the car into pulling less current.

    Lubricating the EVSE plug

The reason your EVSE plug requires force to insert is because OpenEvse supplies Duosida plugs with their kits. Those plugs use power sockets that apply way too much pressure on the pins inside the car's charge port. I investigated this problem here...

    Rapid SOH loss since purchase.

My car is 2011SL that had new battery installed in 08/2014 at 60K miles. The seller drove it for 15K miles and sold it to me in 05/2016. The replacement battery is 295B0-3NF9E which I believe is a 2015 "lizard" battery. I wonder if the new 2015 battery BMS could have a different reset behavior...

    Rapid SOH loss since purchase.

Pretty sure it was Autel MaxiSys Pro (MS908 Pro) based on how I remember it looked like. EDIT: Contacted the seller, he insisted it was official Nissan Consult computer. But I am 100% sure it was touchscreen tablet and not a laptop.

    The Battery Replacement Thread

Could you share how you are charging your Leaf? Do you keep it mostly topped off and parked in the sun or shade? I am in west Broward with 2011SL with '15 battery. I would like to compare our capacity degradation. PM me if you want my contact info.
