Telematics upgrade for US import to Canada

+1 on this! I'm happy enough with using the US site, but would be nice to fully convert over to the Canadian side, if only for the metric instead of imperial figures. Perhaps this might be the thin end of the wedge with getting friendly Canadian dealers on board to start (re)-registering us onto...

Telematics upgrade for US import to Canada

Yeah, that's been annoying me a bit with this... no option to choose your units in-app. I didn't even try the Canadian app, didn't realise it would allow you to point to the US site. But no point anyway if the units are still imperial.

Telematics upgrade for US import to Canada

Just a follow on, it's now been just over 2 weeks since I imported my Leaf, having had the TCU upgrade done in Bellingham pre-import.... and the Nissan Connect system is still working as expected... so looks like as long as you can get it done somehow, you'll be fine.

Telematics upgrade for US import to Canada

It seems to be. I'll update if it stops... but so far so good.

Telematics upgrade for US import to Canada

I too was told that the warranty follows the VIN, regardless of where it is in N. America. I just had to create a new Owners account, and register the VIN with that for the telematics, but the warranty was ok as is. So... my iOS app refused to connect to the TCU today at all... finally got...

Telematics upgrade for US import to Canada

Btw... question for those of you who've used this before... is it normal for the app to fail to connect at least 1/2 the time? Seems really hit & miss!

Telematics upgrade for US import to Canada

Ok, so quick update. I had my TCU replacement done in Bellingham on Friday. I was not present for this, the person handling my import took it to the dealership on my behalf. It took just over an hour, and then he drove the vehicle up to the border to meet me and we completed the import process...

Telematics upgrade for US import to Canada

I haven't done that yet. I'm waiting for the hardware upgrade.... haven't even added my vehicle to the portal yet....

Telematics upgrade for US import to Canada

So I just got off an online chat session with Nissan USA... a couple of interesting points highlighted below. However, in the end I had him set me up on the Owners Portal anyway and we'll see what happens. I'm going ahead with the upgrade anyway... might be money wasted, but one thing is for...

Telematics upgrade for US import to Canada

Hi... not sure, but if thats the main dealership then probably yes. It's the fellow who's handling my import that's taking it there for me first thing Friday prior to delivering the vehicle to me on the Canadian side of the border. Apparently with all the snowy weather the dealership has had a...

Telematics upgrade for US import to Canada

I'm taking the plunge.... my car is booked in for Friday morning in Bellingham,, just before I import it. One way or another we'll see if this works.

Telematics upgrade for US import to Canada

Good point, I don't have my car yet, hopefully will do next week... but I am with Rogers for my mobile service so this should be easy to test. Anyone know what SIM size it uses? Shouldn't matter, I have a set of adapters. Only thing then of course is would the extra Rogers fee for a data only...

Telematics upgrade for US import to Canada

As previously mentioned, I've got a window of opportunity here pre-import to have it done in Bellingham, far less hassle than dealing with it myself after the fact, wasting a day etc.... but I'm also wondering if it's worth it if it's still flaky in Canada with the 3g unit accessing the US...

Telematics upgrade for US import to Canada

+1 on the above post. I'm mid-process on the purchase/import process from WA state into BC, hopefully taking delivery early next week. The seller made me aware of this, so not a surprise... but I didn't know until i started looking deeper that this couldn't be sorted out directly in Canada...
