How To: Reduction Gear Oil Change

An old trick is to put a magnet into the drain hole so you simply have that much more magnetic surface area, but it is best if the pan is iron as well, for adhesion. That said, I have drained a few Leaf gear boxes, and most of them are nasty. It is like transfer cases or differentials, most...

Level 1 solar charging w/o batteries?

Ok, you did your homework. Solar doesn't work perfectly for everyone, but it is nice to have even a small system for if/when the grid goes down. *shrug* GoldBrick: Leftie is giving you good info, so I don't have much to add. The water idea is a good one, but you need a lot of flow. I recall...

Level 1 solar charging w/o batteries?

Home batteries: I'm building one out of used lifepo4 units that are 3.3v/120ahr each. 2P 4S gives me a 13.2v/240ahr battery, so I built two and will end up with a 26.4v/240ahr system. (6.5 kwhr) My last set up was 2 L16 lead acid 6Vs in series with 400ahr each. (5kwhr) The new battery will be...

Level 1 solar charging w/o batteries?

You are welcome. If you want more info, just ask. The trailer idea sounds good, but may be hard to do. The sheer surface area of the panels required... the rack that is light weight yet sturdy, adjustable and solid enough to withstand wind... sufficient battery capacity... *shrug* Not trying to...

Level 1 solar charging w/o batteries?

Yeah, retrofitting solar isn't always easy. I was lucky that my house is a cheap tract home with a huge south facing roof face with little to no shade. Hot as hell in the summer, but the grid tied solar system that would fit perfectly would also help with the heat too. A little ways out... ($)...

    I Beat EPA's 2.9 Miles/KWh : Report Your Monthly Mileage

4.5 m/kwh Mostly in town, rarely above 50, often in traffic where I modulate and use regen as much as possible. I also do exercise the torque occasionally when appropriate, so not your grandma either.

Level 1 solar charging w/o batteries?

Yes, I can never remember that acronym so I don't try too hard. Maybe that's why? :D A few points about the voltage though. Yes, line voltage is 120, but... I was talking about the minimum that my EVSE works at I'm talking about running off of a power inverter, none of mine ever seem to hit...

Level 1 solar charging w/o batteries?

I dabble with off grid solar, work for an EV company, and own a Leaf, so here is what I know: The lowest rate my evcs (charging thingie) works at is 110v/8 amps; that's 880 watts. I currently have a 400w solar array with a 5kw/hr lead acid battery bank and a 900w true sine power inverter. I did...

    Parting out a 2015 Leaf

So, folks... after checking my PMs and some consideration, I have a suggestion or two to help with my organization: I will continue to post when I get a "new" car to strip, and please feel free to ask away about parts from it. If you are just looking for a part in general, please PM me with...

    Parting out a 2015 Leaf

Ok, got it, no need to post the picture I took. ;) I'm going to say that we have to have some, because I have removed several myself. And yes, we have one set up with a OBD2 port that we plug an ELM bluetooth sender unit into and read the pack with Leaf Spy. You also need a 12v battery to power...

    Parting out a 2015 Leaf

Sorry, I just saw this. There are two plugs that go into the battery (3?), but I'm not sure which is the "communication" plug. I'll go through the wiring harness pile tomorrow and take some pictures, you can clarify what you are after then. I'm assuming that you want a pigtail, or do you need...

    Parting out a 2015 Leaf

You are welcome. My boss hates throwing away perfectly good parts as well, but we can't store everything indefinitely either. Some of this might wind up in my shed at home... Anyway, good points made, but I disagree with #3. I have great fun beating ricers off the line and slinging it around...

    Parting out a 2015 Leaf

OK, good, at least I know that it worked. And agreed, they don't seem to need a lot of work, and I have the feeling that this is mostly a "dealership" crowd anyway. Still, steering wheels get worn, window switches fail, interior panels break, seats tear, etc and when people see what a...

    Parting out a 2015 Leaf

Odd, I see a thumbnail that enlarges if you click on it. Let's try a direct link... https://i.postimg.cc/hPcB2928/20210209-160917-1.jpg And thank you for the reading recommendation, I will definitely check it out. I've only had a Leaf for less than 3 months and didn't pay attention to them...

    Parting out a 2015 Leaf

OK, that works for now. Like I said, let me know what part you need. This isn't the first Leaf, and it won't be the last by a long shot. B

    Parting out a 2015 Leaf

Hey all, new to the forum, but a proud owner of a different 2015 Leaf that I like a lot. I currently work for an EV focused company, and one of my jobs is to strip crashed Leaves. Admin, please understand that I am not breaking rules, anything sold is a private sale. I will look into an...
