We have a 2013 Leaf and just got a Lightning, which comes with an EVSE that has adapters for plugging into 120- or 240-volt outlets. Before I fry anything, is it safe to charge this older Leaf with this EVSE in a 240-volt outlet? I don’t know why it wouldn’t be, but not sure if there’s some...

When a gift card is purchased (as in, someone bought it and gave it to you as a gift), it generally doesn't/often can't (like in California) have an expiration date. When a gift card is given away as a promo, I've seen many that expire.

I don't understand the complaints about depreciation. Our price was 28,xxx before tax, etc. But we had state and fed. credits of 11,000. So what we PAID was 17,xxx. I would expect the value to start from there and go down, not from 28k. If I went to buy a 1 day old (used) LEAF, I wouldn't pay...

L3 port was closed. But this seems like an excellent social cue for EV'ers to establish! The main port was not locked, in case that was someone's next question. :D (We checked, kinda hoping it was, which would have made the decision a lot easier.) [Edited 4/15/15 for SS&G police compliance.]

We just got our first Leaf (new) and have been looking into Nissan's extended warranty (i.e., trying to find the lowest price). GEICO mentioned their Mechanical Breakdown Coverage, but couldn't (or wouldn't) send a copy of the policy. Has anyone here purchased this for a Leaf or checked into it...

Agreed. But I don't think many people actually accelerate in these situations anymore. Seems the reaction of choice is to slam on the brakes.

If you consider the Smart Car's deal, I wouldn't say it's a "steal", and I would think it would be available to 2nd, 3rd, etc. owners. If you buy an SC, you can buy it with the battery, or without (and lease the battery). If you lease the battery, they knock $5.2k (or 5.1k or 5.3k... can't...

So their 16" steel wheels and 16" aluminum wheels weigh just about the same?

Oversizing the wire is not a problem (unless it's so oversized that the bare individual wires won't fit where they need to go!)

Can't speak about range increase (other than the obvious "lighter = farther"), but rearseatdelete.com makes kits for some cars (apparently not for the LEAF yet, however). For the MINI, they claim you lose 36 pounds. If that little bit helps gas vehicles, then it would definitely help electric...
