Ev charger head blocked by seal

My home charger cable won't plug into my LEAF today and on examining the charger head I see a rubber seal has slipped down and is blocking the port. It's flimsy I could pull it out all together or is it important?and should I therefore try to fix it by opening the head and repositioning the seal (not too confident about that)

If you can pull it out safely, then it should be fine. It's more of an issue if you tend to plug-in from the middle of a rainstorm frequently. :?

It is sometimes possible to use a small screwdriver blade or similar tool to push the seal back to its normal position. I have done that on a couple of EVSE connectors over the years.
