Re: Nissan BladeGlider - Performance EV Concept

I was ready when Nissan announced it three years ago...

Nissan electric sports car could arrive by 2020

An electric sports car from Nissan has been described as feasible by the turn of the decade; brand's BladeGlider concept aims to change perception of EVs

A Nissan electric sports car could be feasible by the turn of the decade, according to Gareth Dunsmore, director of electric vehicles for Nissan Europe.

Speaking at the dynamic launch of the Nissan BladeGlider electric concept car, Dunsmore said that while it would be possible to produce an electric sports car now, the market has to be ready for it – and while it isn’t yet, by 2020 the demand for electric vehicles will be much higher...

My own suggested 2017 MY intro target specs would be:

~2,000 Lbs. If Nissan can keep it light (while still meeting fed crash test standards) the handling and acceleration will not disappoint.

~6 m/kWh @ 60 mph, with ~25 kWh available, providing ~150 mile highway range.

~$40,000 base price.

Looks like the BladeGlider will be at the Geneva Show. New Nissan You Tube clip showing Margo Robbie driving around Monaco... If they build and sell this thing for 40k, I'd buy one.

I had thought Nissan completely killed the BladeGlider years ago. Interesting to see them suddenly showing it off again. I would take a good hard look at this, although I couldn't justify a 3-seater at this point in my life. Maybe - just maybe - Nissan will put a little more excitement into the Leaf 2.0.

Notice that an (extremely unlikely as soon as ~2020, IMO) 220 kWh pack is claimed at ~10 seconds into the video:

Maybe Nissan just wants to make endless prototypes. That's so much easier than trying to sell cars.

Nah, that's more of a VW move, I think. Remember, the Leaf is still the best selling EV worldwide...

Heh. I didn't mean endless prototypes of the same car.

I know, I just found it amusing. But how many "endless prototypes" has Nissan really made? This isn't a new one, just an old one brought back into the spotlight. Why? I don't know. Maybe they resolved their lawsuit and intend to build something? Or maybe they just want to remind us that they still build EVs, even though they are quickly losing market share.
