Why build a Sports Sedan and then design it to drive itself?

First of all, you don't have to engage autopilot when you drive, so it should be a non issue for you. Secondly, it does not drive itself, it has an advanced driver assistance system. On a long boring trip where you are not out for the joy of the drive, the assistance is nice to have.

And yet when you do take over, you are still driving a car which was designed to drive itself. Which is my whole point.

Yes, I understand that I'm not the perfect target for the Model 3. It's just that it's tantalizingly close to what I want, but then takes a hard left turn into something in which I have no interest.

I can't find any sources (including CNBC) that say there are only 2 colors (but there are only 2 options: color and wheel size).

Do you have a link to the report that states 2 colors? Thanks.

As I understand it, initially there will only be 2 options: color (at least 5) and wheel size (choice of 2).
AWD/RWD will be available later.

That's what it sounds like to me as well.

I was a bit dismayed that it sounds like only the SMALLER battery will be available initially. I was thinking it was going to be the LARGER battery they offer first. Well, because of my geographical location I'm likely to be in a follow-on wave anyway, so hopefully by the time they get to me the larger battery will be available. I don't really care about the other options anyway, so that suits me fine.

Model 3 delivery estimator
https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads ... tor.77890/

Open this spreadsheet,
select to the Model 3 Delivery Estimator sheet (tab at the bottom),
scroll right to an unused section,
and enter the data for your reservation (and selected options):
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

It'll give an estimate of order and deliver dates, as well as the likelihood how much of the federal tax credit you will qualify for.

That was the story a few weeks ago...

Unflatteringly describing the current state of the gigifactory , and which since has been deleted by teslaerati :

Tesla Invest $216 Million Into Model 3 Battery Line At Gigafactory

...According to our source, the first battery modules for Model 3 test vehicles are being hand-built by a team 150 employees over a 24 hour shift. The source tells Teslarati via Teslanomics (video below) that it takes approximately 10 minutes to complete 1 section of a battery module with 2 employees moving 2170 lithium ion battery cells from a box and into the battery module. There are a total of 7 sections in each battery module. The manual production has been taking place for “several months now” according to our source, who says Tesla is currently building approximately 20 Model 3 battery modules per day by hand...

According to our source, the base Model 3, as of now, will start at 60kWh. This capacity comes in higher than what we originally expected and will meet the “at least 215 miles” of range that Tesla had first announced for the vehicle. Tesla is reportedly concentrating on the production of the premium battery at first, which is slated to be 74kWh, and likely badged as a Tesla Model 3 75...

My error: Should state only 2 variables to choose from; colors & wheel sizes

Model 3 at 3:00 PM today in traffic on the SoCal 405 freeway NB about a mile south of the 10 freeway.
Noticed it immediately, but obviously not as a Model S. Actually, much better rear design than a Model S.
Any ideas as to what the object is attached to the rear window, e.g. access port - charging?
