Should we give the possibility of a Micra BEV its own thread?

I posted the rather tenuous chain of reports indicating an upcoming Micra BEV might be in the works a few weeks ago on the corporate news thread, and Pedro Lima at pushevs posted his own speculations on this subject yesterday, at the final link below.

I'd like to see a Micra BEV for sale in the USA, but given the limited demand for cars as small as the Micra here, I remain particularly skeptical of that part of the pushevs post.

I'd count the USA lucky if Nissan even allows us to buy its one-class-larger Note-based PHEV?/BEVx? that is, IMO, may be slightly less uncertain than the Micra BEV of actually reaching production.

Nissan's biggest announcement from the Paris Auto show is the new micra, which seems somewhat over-hyped in the title of the video below:

However, other reports suggest a new Nissan in the same class might be revolutionary in that it will be a BEV:

Nissan plans new electric supermini to sit under the Leaf

Nissan’s new electric small car set to follow the next Leaf and could share tech with the Renault ZOE

Nissan is weighing up its options as to how it will expand its range of pure electric vehicles, with a Ford Fiesta-sized model lined up to join the Nissan Leaf, according to a senior company source...

...he gave the strongest indication yet on what’s likely to get the green light, saying: “We’ve invested $5.4bn (£4.1bn) in electric cars such as the Leaf, so we need to ensure we’re satisfying as many types of customer as possible. In Europe, that could mean looking towards B-segment hatches [Ford Fiesta size] and SUVs or crossovers.” ...

If we look towards crossovers or the B-segment for the next car, those could make perfect sense.” Nissan has relatively straightforward options for an electric B-segment model, illustrated here in our exclusive image...

And perhaps, even offered for sale the USA?
Paris Motor Show: It's electric

...Nissan is weighing whether to sell its Micra in the U.S. after launching the subcompact hatchback in Canada in 2014. The latest-generation Micra will be bigger than the current model and gets a higher-quality interior to make it a better competitor to models such as the Ford Fiesta. It will look sportier, with a design influenced by the Sway concept unveiled at the 2015 Geneva show. Adding the Micra to Nissan's U.S. lineup may depend on how much Nissan thinks it will cannibalize its Versa sedan...

Renault Zoe ZE 40 and Nissan Micra EV

The Renault-Nissan Alliance is about to dominate the electric car market in Europe with two good looking superminis. The Renault Zoe and the Nissan Micra EV.

The Nissan Micra Gen5 starts a new era at Nissan. From now on every Nissan that gets a new generation will be prepared to have an electric powertrain. Not only this new Micra, but also Juke and QASHQAI...

When Micra’s electric version arrives it will share some components with the Zoe. Probably the motor, inverter, charger and battery. This way the Alliance can finally reduce costs and increase production.

Unlike the Renault Zoe that was made especially for the European market, the Nissan Micra EV should be sold worldwide. This means that it will support CCS in Europe and North-America, while CHAdeMO should be supported in Japan...

Micra is being marketed as a range extended car in Japan, why would it be a BEV here?
AFAIK, the only range extended plans reported are for the Note:

Nissan's e-Power range-extended Note BEV, for sale by 11/16 in Japan?

http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=22166&start=30
But today's report may either explain or further confuse the situation:

The Nissan Note will be phased out of production when the new Micra goes on sale in the UK in March 2017.

Micra and Note are the same car for different markets.

And with the redesign, it makes no sense to continue making the Note unless they do so in a lower-wage facility such as Mexico, India, or China. And despite being made in Mexico, the Note sold at US Nissan dealers actually costs MORE than the also Mexican-made Versa sedan (Latio in other markets), which is a larger car.

ICEV 5G Micras are now available in Europe:

All-new Nissan Micra: the revolution has begun

09 Jan 2017

There is only one word to describe the all-new Nissan Micra – revolutionary. Now in its fifth generation, this new model is a massive progression from the one it is replacing, and from the trio of highly successful superminis which date back to the Micra’s debut in Europe in 1983.

The new Micra is longer, wider and lower than ever before. The car has been repositioned at the very heart of the ultra-competitive European B-hatchback segment.

Conceived, designed and engineered with those customers’ requirements at the top of the agenda, Nissan has a clear ambition for the new Micra; it should re-establish itself inside the top 10 sellers in the segment, and compete head-to-head with the best and most popular in the class. Benchmarked against key rivals, Nissan believes the all-new Micra meets and exceeds its targets.

Key to its appeal is the car’s athletic and expressive exterior design, which moves the Micra name plate in a daring new direction. The contemporary look and premium feel continues inside, with a high-quality cabin that boasts two-tone soft-touch materials as standard across the range. Thanks to outstanding packaging, the five-door-only body shell boasts best-in-class ergonomics for front seat occupants, with no compromise to rear passenger space. The boot is big enough to easily cater for customers’ needs.

The all-new Nissan Micra is also a technology leader, with a number of ‘in-control’ features – the sort usually associated with more expensive models – now available for the first time. Not only are they new to the Micra, they’re new to the segment. These include Intelligent Lane Intervention, a safety system which gently corrects the Micra back on to the right path should it be required.

Nissan’s acclaimed Intelligent Around View Monitor camera system – as seen on the Qashqai and Juke crossovers – is also available on the Micra for the first time. These and other technologies are a clear demonstration of Nissan Intelligent Mobility, the brand’s vision for a zero emissions and zero fatalities future...

Available only as a five-door model, the car is longer, lower and wider than ever before. The wheelbase is also longer. The new Micra is the widest model in the B-hatchback segment and among the lowest...

The Micra a pretty small car, ~6.5" shorter, ~1" narrower and ~5.5 " lower than a Bolt.

Too small to sell in the USA?
