Re: Kia Niro BEV

From JeffN's article posted over in the Kona topic, we get this piece of welcome news for Californians, especially skiers:
According to Kia, the North American version of the 2019 Niro EV will come standard with a heat pump to more efficiently assist with cabin heating and the dedicated battery heater will be an optional feature. In the 2020 Soul EV, both the heat pump and battery heater are listed as optional features.
I have no idea if the email* I sent Hyundai asking for this back in October had an effect, but I'm glad I took the time to send it!

Comprehensive review here, looks like an even better choice than it's Kona Electric cousin:

A summary of why you think that would be interesting.

Bjorn took a Niro to a Ionity 350 kW charger. I have to say -- very nice looking charger !
Anyway, the car maxxed out at 68 kW when the SoC was 50% and the battery was warm enough.

If this car was AWD and would charge at 100kW or more, it would be a no-brainer for me to get one. As it is, lacking both of those I'm still seriously considering it. Have to see how the new Soul BEV turns out as well. I can always put a cloth cover on the seats.

My sig on TMC has always read "Model S/X are too big and too expensive for me. Waiting for a small AWD CUV (lose the Falcon Wing doors - some of us need to carry kayaks!) on the Model 3 platform." Of course, the Model Y is looking like it will be too expensive as well, or at least it will be years before the price drops enough for me to consider, and it's really too big for my needs -I'd prefer at least 6" and preferably 10" shorter than the Model 3.

IEVS:
What Car? Names Kia Niro EV 2019 Car of the Year
https://insideevs.com/what-car-kia-e-ni ... -car-year/
. . . he Kia e-Niro has won the What Car? 2019 Car of the Year award in the UK.

It’s the first time when an all-electric model won the overall title as well as the first win for Kia. Of course, the e-Niro won the Electric Car of the Year category as well.

The British magazine appreciates the range and affordability, which makes the e-Niro a very good value proposition. . . .

Not much new in the latest update, expected to start arriving in the end of Feb. I think the biggest surprise is how many states they are going for.

If the car had at least a front parking camera with cloth seats and heated steering wheel, I'd be regretting leasing a Leaf.

PLEASE don't PM me with Leaf questions. Just post in the topic that seems most appropriate.
