More important, and impressive, is the Brammo claim that each Empluse model “will be capable of sustaining 100 mph.” This may not be Hayabusa/ZX-14 territory, but it is plenty for most riders in the real world . . . something you could not say about most of the electric motorcycles available up to this point.

Speaking of bikes - bicycles that is - I tested the Sanyo Eneloop at last year's energy street fair at CCSE. The other electric bikes are like bicycles with electric motors added. Eneloop is a true hybrid. The electric assist never gets in the way; it gives power assist in direct proportion to how much you pedal, and regenerative braking recharges the battery for extended range.

$2,000 is expensive for a bicycle, but cheap for transportation and exercise. If only we had safe bikeways, this could serve my commuting needs as well as a $35k Nissan Leaf. (I don't have the dedicated cyclist attitude of boldly asserting my traffic rights up to the point of death.)
