what other car do you drive?

Wed Feb 20, 2013 8:25 am

SKY888 is the username that I use at other car forums I go to.

it stands for the car that I drive and the registration plate that I use.

its a 2008 Saturn SKY. My license plate is SKY888

it's currently around 400whp, but I'm currently building the engine, transmission, etc. And make it into a 800hp vehicle.

I'll be installing a "compound turbo" set-up using GT4294r and GT2871r turbos.

I compete at car shows and also love drag racing/autocrossing

Some people might be offended since its definitely NOT a vehicle for lessening my carbon footprint, so I apologize if offended anyone.

Just wana know if other members out there share the same interests regarding engine upgrades/race/etc

here are some older photos:

Oh thank GOD! There is ANOTHER!

Dude.... I can't tell you how good it is to know that another Leaf owner that is a car guy that has an affinity for speed exists. It is a truly rare thing. Not many on this forum that I know of.

Nice machine you have there. Impressive! I can definitely appreciate it.

I've been competing in regional autoX and doing track days for a fairly long time. Actually I should say I WAS into it until I had kids a few years back, but that's another story. I started to get into Time Attack events and the occasional HPDE before I had to slow down (hence the Leaf). I rock a '07 Nissan 350Z. It's tuned for SCCA BSP (CSP now? I haven't been keeping up). Looks pretty much stock, but the beauty of it is more than skin deep.

then there's two of us! :)

It's nice to know other people in this forum also have the "need for speed!" :)

350z are bad ass!
Once you go RWD, you'll never go back to the FWD "sports cars"

I used to go to car events every week-end, until my wife had our first baby last Dec 7, 2013.
Then things changed ASAP. I started to think on how to save money right away! lol

That's why I traded in my 2012 Honda accord. And at the Nissan dealership, there was this Nissan GTr. My wife stated "I can see you driving that car, but not the Nissan Leaf!" She knows my passion on engines........and up to now she can't believe that I drive the nissan leaf on a daily basis.

I actually told her that I was also surprised that driving the Nissan Leaf, I still get the looks from people, and get conversations from interested folks.

This pales to insignificance but my toys have been: 1968 Datsun 2000, 1994 Corvette convertible, 2000 BMW MRoadster, and now I have a 2006 Mini convertible with the John Cooper Works treatment. That engine is only 1,600 cc's but develops 208 hp. Its top speed is rated at 143 mph. I calculated that if a 350 small block Chevy engine were tuned to the same extent it would have around 750 hp. However, speaking of small blocks, I have a 355 cu. in. four bolt main Chevy engine and transmission that I would part with. It has been rebuilt with .030 oversized pistons, completely balanced, deck shaved, ported and combustion chamber cc'd and has a 3/4 RV cam to pass emissions.

I'm not a racer/tweaker type as I'm too fat and too mechanically inept, but I do have a Mustang GT convertible for fun that manages the speed well enough in a more traditional way. 17mpg isn't THAT bad is it?

I'm just trying to make up for the emissions from when I drove this.

But when I need to go further than the Leaf can go, I swap cars with the wife and take her 2012 Prius. As far as a performance car, I miss my old company car (seen below) but not necessarily the old job.

OK, I'll jump in.
I have a 66 Mustang that I've owned since high school. Paid just $875 for it in 1970. Since then it has had 300k miles on it 3 engines several seasons of drag racing.
Current Equip:
302 cu, 10.5:1 compression, ported & polished HiPerf heads, Isky cam, Edlebrock intake, 650 cfm dbl pump Holly
351W exh manifolds with 2.25 in pipe & turbo mufflers.
10.5" "Boss 302" clutch
BW "SVO" T5 trans
9" rear end 3.00:1 posi
4 puck GT disk brakes front and 11"x3" rear drum brakes
Big sway bars front and rear
Traction bars
Magnum 500 wheels

Had to tame the tuning when I got married so the wife could drive it. I installed the 3.00 gears, a lesser cam, retuned the ignition profile and carb.
It still knocks out the 1/4 in 14 seconds @ 104 mph but cruises nicely and gets 20 mpg highway. Not near that around town ;)

My interest into the electric car field came from a couple of the guys that worked on White Zombie.
