Iron batteries have been around for a long time, they are all also referred to as Edison batteries and are extremely durable and last a long time. My understanding is they are even heavier per watt stored than lead acid and cost more, but again are significantly more durable. There is a new company making them again for RE systems. https://ironedison.com/
It looks like in this video he is trying to create a smaller version of these which would be great, but likely heavier than lithium based batteries

I think the 'Edison Battery' is nickel-iron, whereas Prof. Allen is shooting for 'iron-iron' or something similar. So there is a difference. In any event, it appears to be worth watching. We donated $25.00 to the effort.
