Star Trek TOS and TOS-cast movies

Tue May 08, 2018 2:05 am

On Facebook, the other day I stumbled across http://www.startrek.com/article/captain ... the-bridge. Until I saw that, I had no idea that there are re-creations of TOS sets (https://www.startrektour.com/general-information/) in Ticonderoga, NY. :geek: I'm considering taking a trip there now.

Was looking thru the photo gallery for https://www.startrektour.com/trekondero ... eroga2017/ and I noticed a familiar car and face in the pics. Doc Willie of Priuschat and his Prius (http://www.willieyee.info/ZHPhotoIndex.html) were in it. I've met him before. I didn't realize he lived in NY.

Anyhow, discuss anything to do w/TOS, the Trek movies that focused on the TOS cast and I guess TAS, since it had the TOS actors doing the voices.

Is "TOS" "The Old/Original Show"? I remember seeing a piece on the local news about a bridge recreation up here, but I thought it was temporary, and traveling...

TOS = "The Original Series"
I noticed you're still working with polymers.

Yep, or "The Old Series".

I also recall a traveling exhibition.

I dug thru some email and found one but the old sites/domains are dead and I haven't chance to see if there are good working fragments at https://web.archive.org/ (some are broken). The below is from a mail I received on 12/7/07.

Star Trek: The Tour

To our fellow Star Trek fans:

We've very happy to share the announcement of the upcoming STAR TREK: THE TOUR, a 50,000 square foot traveling interactive exhibit of Star Trek sets, props, models, motion-simulator rides and more from all five Trek series and all ten Trek films. The tour will visit 40 cities around the country, kicking off in Long Beach California on January 18th, 2008.

Creation will be represented with our line of autographed collectibles in the sales boutique and we'll also be helping to coordinate celebrity appearances along the way. We hope to see a lot of friendly faces of folks that have attended our conventions in the past at the various tour stops.

Past Creation guests have helped to put together the tour including production designer Herman Zimmerman, costume designer Robert Blackman and make-up genius Michael Westmore. Gene's son Eugene “Rod” Roddenberry provides some narration for the exhibits and Creation's good friend, the one and only William Shatner, is serving as the official ambassador of the tour.

Highlights of STAR TREK THE TOUR include:

Detailed recreations of original sets from Star Trek: The Next Generation®, including Captain Picard’s quarters, Dr. Crusher’s sick bay and the majestic NCC-1701-D Bridge.
The chance to take a ride through a Star Trek adventure in four full-motion, show-based flight simulators.
An all-new multimedia Encounter Theater, built like a theater in the round with 360 degree video screens. Computer-generated sequences put visitors in the middle of the Star Trek action.
The opportunity for exhibit-goers to sit on a full-size Enterprise bridge from the original TV series and have their photo taken and superimposed with an image of the original cast – including Spock, McCoy and Scotty – to look as if the Enterprise crew is standing right next to them.
The ability for guests to star with the original cast in an episode of their choice and watch themselves interact with Star Trek icons such as Spock and Scotty. Guests can take home a DVD of their cameo to share with family and friends.
Tickets & Pricing
Tickets to STAR TREK THE TOUR will go on sale on December 7th during an exclusive 7-day pre-sale offer for American Express Cardholders. Beginning December 15th tickets will be available to the general public. Tickets can be purchased by calling 213-480-3232 or by logging onto http://www.ticketmaster.com or http://www.StarTrekTheTour.com

Cities & Dates
The tour starts in Long Beach, CA for a limited engagement on January 18, 2008 and runs to February 17. The next 4 cities STAR TREK THE TOUR will visit are San Francisco, Minneapolis / St. Paul, Chicago and Detroit.

Adults: $30 weekdays / $35 on weekends.
Children (12 and under): $16.50 weekdays / $17.50 weekend
Seniors (65+) and military personnel: $25 weekday / $30 weekend.

I found https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek:_The_Exhibition which seems to be on the above. From the sounds of it, I never experienced it. :(

There were a couple of ST programs playing regularly on the antenna stations we get, last year. (I cut the cable a couple of years ago, and enough others seemed to have done so to initiate a proliferation of digital sub-networks on broadcast HDTV. One of them - "Decades" I think - runs all the ST shows before the current one on weeknights, in order.) One of them included a detailed, lengthy look at the preparations for the tour. I'm trying to remember the name of it, but failing. I think it's the one that wasn't called "Captains' Log." You'd enjoy that, I think, if you can find it.

Oh man, I'd love to be able to take that tour as well. They seem to have done a great job recreating those iconic sets!

Wow! Never seen this ad before since it aired in the UK. It features Kirk and Scotty.
