Just curious if the 2015 and newer i3's have all the defects cleared out?

From folks I know the 2014's were flaming piles of garbage with fuel door flaps breaking, engine lights being on continuously, bearings, mounts and more failing.

But now with i3's available at $9999 and up they are hitting my radar to replace a secondary aging Cobalt which is mostly a second car.

I can tolerate and bank about $2500 a years in repairs but would prefer to have a car that doesn't nickel and dime me, as a second car I can survive if it is in the shop occasionally

Has anyone noticed a dramatic uptick in quality or are these still impossible to own out of warranty?

I don't really follow the car that much but I am part of the https://www.facebook.com/groups/BMWi3/ group so I do see posts from there every now and then.

I would NOT want any i3 REx in or out of warranty. I doesn't seem like '15 RExes are immune to the plethora of problems.

Just join https://www.facebook.com/groups/BMWi3/ and hang out for a few months. Compare the frequency if CELs, drivetrain malfunction errors, restraint system malfunctions, fuel door release problems, etc. to what you see here on MNL during that time.

Here are a few I quickly found that are '15+:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/BMWi3/permalink/2320951551312026/ - '17 i3 REx in the shop for a CEL. KLE (basically the 2nd on-board charger) he believes is/will be replaced again.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/BMWi3/permalink/2314210828652765/ - '15 REx seat heater failed. Guy starts out by saying "I know it's a common problem..."
https://www.facebook.com/groups/BMWi3/permalink/2309961912410990/ - "Check engine light 3 days after a week at the dealer fixing the previous CEL. 2017 REx."

That said, it does seem like the problem rate has died down compared to when the only model year available in the US was the '14...
