Same thing here, but I have to wonder if it's a Google issue? Have not dug in to it yet.

For some reason, it appears to have started working again. I've compared the source of an email that does and does not link up, but they look identical. Maybe Google does some sort of post-processing on messages after they are received that triggered link generation or something.

yep, started working for me again today. never realized how convenient it was to have that direct link until it was not there anymore!

Was going to start a new thread but I guess my query/request fits here...

In my subscription notices (as in everyone else's), I get a text email with URLs to click to read the most recent post.

The trouble is, the email app I use on my phone (which is the standard Google Mail app, although my e-mail is not GMail) doesn't recognize them as URLs (I don't know whether that's because of their length, the fact that they don't start with "www" or what (I would think the http:// at the beginning would give it away), and therefore aren't clickable.

On all of my computer-based email clients it's not a problem...the links are highlighted and are clickable. This hadn't been a huge issue for me before because reading forum posts on my phone was not that important to me, but phones have become more capable over the years to the point where yeah, I'd like to be able to read updates on my phone.

If it were the other way around, cutting and pasting on my computer would not be a big deal, but cutting and pasting the URL on the phone, while possible, is still extremely difficult.

Would it be possible (or is there a setting? I couldn't find one) to send subscription update e-mails as actual HTML with real links so they are clickable even on my phone?

Interesting, I haven't been having any issues using the Gmail client on Android.

Is your e-mail through Gmail or another one of the "mainstream" e-mail providers? I wonder if they "html-ify" incoming e-mail.

In my case I manage my own e-mail server and it's just a vanilla IMAP mail system that doesn't do anything fancy to incoming e-mails.

Email goes straight into my Gmail account. I could try another address on an independent domain I own which gets forwarded to Gmail...

You could try that, but it still wouldn't be apples to apples since it sounds like it still ultimately flows into gmail. For example, if I simply manually forward the notification email (as a text-only email) to gmail, the links get highlighted on my phone on the gmail app. The reason appears to be that gmail pre-processes the e-mail and converts to text/html, at which point the URLs are real links.
