New Forum format vs. Old Forum format

Fri Jun 26, 2015 2:57 pm

Hi,
Where did the active topics and other buttons (like "show my post") go in this new forum format?

Menu drop down is from three horizontal lines in the top left corner. Still trying to get accustomed to this format as well.

Yeah, seems like a fair bit of wasted space with this new layout. There's a dark bar under "My Nissan Leaf .com" that takes up a lot of space with little benefit, IMO. I'm pretty happy with the Quick Links menu, but if that darker gray bar is there, might as well have it be useful. The "Active Topics" and other links were in that location (roughly) previously.

I think there are some interesting choices that were made... would've been nice to see the planned changes in advance and provide any feedback beforehand rather than after the fact. I like a couple of things (the notifications seem kind of nice), but it'll take awhile to get used to it.
It definitely looks cleaner and more modern in a lot of aspects, but also seems a little more generic.

I find it much harder to read the new comments. The new comments just seem to blend in with all the other stuff on the screen. The old format was much easier to read.

I'm only getting half of the words in the very top of the page where it shows the gas pump. When I put my pointer over the word (research or contribute for example) it cuts the words in the drop down box in half on the horizontal. Like a pair of scissors cut the bottom off the words. Is there a fix for this? System is Explorer with 8.1 windows.
2011 Leaf 1 bought 2/28/15 @ 28,000ish mi. 10 bar (8 bars @ 11/25/15 @ 37,453 ) (New lizard @ 39,275 mi. on 1/20/2016) Now 52,166 mi.

2011 Leaf 2 bought 4/28/15 @ 24,000ish mi. 12 bar (new lizard Dec. 2014 @ 22,273 miles) Now 35,485 mi.

Why move the poster information to the right side? That is one of the key things I look at to find a post. Having it on the immediate left made that easy to do. Now it is 2/3 of a page in. Not nice at all.

I am liking this less and less.

My comments on the new skin mirror many others:

  1. Link info should be on the left, not the right.
  2. Why isn't the font color black? Contrast is too low.
  3. A lot of wasted space which lets to a lot of extra vertical scrolling. I have a large screen and I still have to go to the bottom of my screen to get to the content. Two large banners at the top?
  4. A lot of other indicators are hard to find:
    1. Single click for "View active topics" - now have to double click
    2. Hard to see what threads have unread posts. Have to stare very closely at the image to see if it has a 1px border on it.
    3. Impossible to see what posts on a page you have already looked at.
  5. LEAF should not be spelled Leaf in the subject.
  6. The toolbar covers up valuable content causing you to often scroll up after clicking on a link.
  7. The font is not as legible as the old one.

The only good thing is that the looks is a bit "cleaner" than before. But in terms of actual usability, it's a number of steps backwards.
