Re-organizing California threads / posts

Thu Jun 24, 2010 3:32 pm

There have been a lot of posts about CA utilities etc in various threads. I thought it may be beneficial to organize those into separate threads / sub-forums.

One idea is to have the following threads to cover CA
- California General
- PG&E Customers
- DWP Customers
- SDG&E Customers

Any other ideas ?
1st Leaf : 2/28/2011 to 5/6/2013
2nd Leaf : 5/4/2013 to 3/21/2017
Volt : 3/25/2017 to 5/25/2018
Model 3 : 5/10/2018 to ?

Probably need an entire category of utility company's with separate threads for each utility around the country. Maybe even need separate subcategories for the utilities and then multiple threads for each utility under that.

These proposed PU categories should be under "States", under "California"?

So that's a "no" on an Edison thread then?

Just go ahead and create it. I think it is too early to create sub-forums by state, thats all. The list of utilities is purely by what one poster PMed me.

Right now I can't sticky the threads - I've PMed Mike about it. In the regional forum and the utlities sub-forum I plan to sticky all the "official" threads.

SCE must be about as big as LADWP. It's certainly bigger than SDG&E. Here are some stats I dug up on number of customer accounts:

5.1M - PG&E
3.8M - LADWP
1.4M - SDG&E

I couldn't find a customer count for SCE, just "more than 13 million people." (PG&E claims 15 million people.)

The only other one that might be worth individual attention is SMUD (Sacramento Municipal Utility District). It's relatively small peanuts at 0.6M customers, but it is in an EV focus area and does generate a lot of its own power.
End of April 2013: Traded my 2011 SL for a 2013 S with charge pkg.

I don't object to a separate thread for PG&E or other Cal. utilities for the purpose of discussing tiers, rates, installation, etc. since so many first-time buyers will be using them, but please don't abandon the regional threads. There are a lot of commonalities among Bay Area buyers, for example, besides the utility. I'll want to know what other local forum members know about charging stations, dealers, local incentives, etc. around here, not in Redding or Sacramento. I even think there could be some social activity when we get a few owners in the area. Maybe some central location like Fremont, which is probably within Leaf distance of most of the Bay Area, could be the site for a picnic or rally of sorts where we could get together and exchange experiences next spring. My point is that utility areas are too big to be the only divisional separators.
