Every time we see one of those car commercials with a big, red bow on the roof of the new car in the driveway, I tell my partner, "That's what I want for Christmas, my LEAF in the driveway with one of those big bows." I don't think it's going to happen.

But, here is what I have asked Santa for:

- 2 garage wall bumpers so when we open the door, no scratches - red, please

- garage laser park system

-personalized license plate frame, with: Charged with Solar Power

What do you want for your LEAF?

This is what I use, poor man's laser guidance:

Garage wall proximity detector - Hang a tennis ball from the ceiling of your garage to alert you when you're the perfect distance away from the wall. Extra bonus: when the car's gone, you can use the hanging tennis ball for batting practice.

Seems like $36 for their 2-laser unit at Target (on-line) now.

Maybe there is/was an in-store closeout?
It was on one of their endcaps in the special "holiday-gift" boxes. Definitely not in the standard retail packaging.

Naw, for geek power, tie the ball to the top of your garage door. That way it's only dangling when the door is open, and out of the way when the door is closed. :)

I ordered these to use now and then with the LEAF...they are less expensive (free shipping!), made in the USA, and should work great: http://www.ipiproducts.com/parkingtarget/

I like the personalized chrome AZ frames better than a 'vanity' plate.

Just for the fun of resurrecting a 6 year old thread :D

Any new gift ideas for the LEAF owner?

1. How about a car-vac that actually works well, and is not too expensive?

Any suggestions for something you have used, with links?

For the same effort as getting a car vac out and using it, bring the Dustbuster out from the house. Works much better. They really should offer a car charger for them.

My gift suggestion, for the long-time Leaf driver: get them a new 12 volt accessory battery, preferably a Marine type hybrid-cycle.

Here's my door saver, made with an old boogie board and some duct tape:

And here's the guidance system:

The hanging ball on the entrance to the garage is important, because as long as the side mirror overlaps that, you won't smash the passenger-side mirror on the side of the door entrance. That's important for my wife who is spatially challenged.

Another tip: Use a quick-release on the string by taping two lengths together halfway up. That way, when you pull it off by mistake, you don't need the ladder to reattach things.

Here's a gift idea, to keep you from losing your $200 key fob:

This one saved me some trouble recently. My fob was where it belonged, but something else had covered it up.
