I am currently getting close to the end of my 3 year lease on a 2013 Nissan Leaf SL with Premium Pkg and am looking to get the same car this time around in a 2016 model. Maturity date is Sept 21, 2016. The MSRP on the 2016 is dramatically higher on the SL than when I leased in 2013, so this is making it harder to match the $290/mo. current payment, though there are now some pretty decent rebates.

With the Chevy Bolt a few months off and the rumored 40 kWh 2017 Leaf in November, I am most likely going to just do the 6 month extension anyway, but just wanted to get some pricing on the current model.

The best I was able to find after checking with 3 dealers in SE Wisconsin, was as follows:

2016 Nissan Leaf SL with Premium Package
15K mi/year
$2000 down
36 months
$355/mo. out the door.

The other offers came in at $368/mo. and $373/mo. so they are all pretty close, but still higher than I would like to be. If I can get the payment under $300, I would consider a 2016, but I think I should just wait it out. Any one else have any feedback?

My feedback is that Wisconsin is apparently in a different plane of reality from California. I'm seeing SV (one trim level below SL, but still) leases in the SF Bay area at around $3K down and $150 to $170/month:

http://www.dublinnissan.com/specials/new.htm (Leaf model number 17116 is the SV trim, $2K + $149/month for 3 years)
http://www.nissansunnyvale.com/specials/lease.htm ($3K + $169/month)

Dublin Nissan's special was $139/month last month. Admittedly these are teasers for just a few cars, but they're still a rough indicator of current rates.

Given the $355/month you're seeing Wisconsin it's almost worth it for you to buy a plane ticket to California, negotiate an SL lease, and ship the car back to Wisconsin. :)

Thanks Bruce,

Yeah, I noticed the California market seems to be offering better lease deals from what I am seeing in the forum posts. Part of it probably can be explained away by building in the $2500 CA rebate, but this would only amount to about $70 over 3 years.

I am checking some Illinois dealers to keep the Milwaukee ones honest. :)

Actually it turns out that that's not correct - the $2500 California rebate goes directly to the consumer even if you lease; the Nissan dealership isn't involved. The dealership (or, more likely, Nissan's leasing agency NMAC) does receive the $7500 federal rebate, but not California's rebate. So yes, in California if you put $3000 down on a lease payment, you eventually get a $2500 check back from the state of California. Or if you negotiate $2500 down, your net down payment is $0.

So the California lease prices in this thread are prior to an additional $2500 back from the state.

However, the current big caveat is that you don't actually get the $2500, because the program is out of money:

You might be able to lease from California dealer and have it shipped to Wisconsin. There is a $600 shipping charge. I know dublin and other nissan dealers have done this in the past.
