When does $7500 Leaf Tax Credit End?

Mon Jun 12, 2017 8:14 am

I know the $7500 tax credit will phase out when Nissan reaches 200,000 sales in the US? How close are they?

From what I read its still valid for the quarter following the quarter in which 200.000 was reached.
Do we know for sure that they didn't reach 200,000 in Jan-March, so that April-June sales still qualify?

Also, I presume that the sales date is whats important, not the date that 2016 federal taxes are filed.

I believe they are just over half-way there -- roughly 105k sold in the USA so far? Over double that wold-wide but the US Federal Credit is only concerned with US sales.

So do all sales count or just those that claim the credit?

http://insideevs.com/us-federal-7500-ev ... estimates/

It's based on sales, not claimed tax credits.
Pulled the trigger on going EV on 10/2016 with a 2012 Leaf, and a Tesla Model 3 reservation expected to receive in June 2018.

The table is from the end of 2016. 2 quarters ago. Clearly Nissan is safe even for the start of the next gen, but it would be nice to have a more recent table if there is one.

Averaging current 2017 sales across the rest of the year would make for 13,780 for all of 2017, which tracks with the 14,000 in 2016.

Given that, I think the table's estimate for Leaf sales are fairly accurate. I don't anticipate that Leaf sales will increase/decrease dramatically, given the mild bump in battery capacity that is expected for 2018.
