This is the money calc I did for my purchase of a used LEAF earlier this year:
State credit (those were the days!) - $2000
Car insurance: $15 a month
Fuel: too low to calculate, runs off my DIY PV
I'm pretty confident that the car will last five years, and if we are lucky, 10 years.
For five years I'll pay $7,000 + $900 = $7,900 or $125 a month
If it lasts seven years I'll pay $7,000+ $1260 = $8260 or $93 a month
If it lasts 10 years I'll pay $7,000+$1,800 = $8800 or $73 a month
In short, a nice, clean, EV for somewhere between less and way less than a dirty ICE vehicle.
Rationalizing was not needed; this was a no-brainer.
Our second, more versatile EV will be a Model 3. That took some rationalizing.
