Regarding the discounts off residual, Nissan was doing that for a while, but I don't think they are doing that anymore, or at least not being as generous as they used to be.
When my 2012 Leaf came to the end of its lease, residual was almost $17k, and while I was offered $5k off of that, I opted not to buy it as I already gotten myself an eGolf. A month later I Googled the VIN and found it for sale at a CarMax for $10k, later reduced to $9700 before it disappeared off their page.
Blue Ocean 2012 Leaf SV, lost that 1st bar at 34 months/26,435 miles. Lease returned 2 months later. Final LeafStat figures: 225 Gids, 17.44 kWH, SOC 91.89%, SOH 82.36%, 69.49% HX, 54.57 Ahr, battery temp 61.8 F.
Now driving a 2015 VW eGolf SEL.
