Purchase of an EVSE might be prohibited as a tie-in sale. Under Magnuson-Moss Nissan would have to give us the EVSE free. (This might only apply if the specific AeroVironment/Nissan EVSE is 'pushed'.)

From our (consumer/buyer) perspective, we should consider the EVSE like any other optional purchase - like mud flaps. It's not required to operate the car. In addition, there are other vendors that sell J1772-compliant EVSE. We are free to buy from another company if we choose. Or not buy at all.

If any dealer says it's required, ask for it in writing. That should stop the pushing very quickly.
