This weekend I went to Seattle's Green Fair with the wife and kids and found out something very exciting! We have supported green energy production on our utility bill for years but at the fair I learned that you can, for about 10% extra on your bill, have 100% of your electricity generated from a mix of wind, Geothermal, Bio-Gas and Solar. The fact that the Leaf gives us the ability to divert all the funds that we used to have to fork over to big oil at the pump and instead direct them to directly support renewable energy production is a dream come true!!! I am very happy to find that I do not have to support coal burning or nuclear power plants at all... yahoo!!!! For those who are not able to make the long term investment in a solar array, or perhaps are renting or are not sure if they are staying put long enough to make solar installation a viable option, this is a "right hear and now" option for you!

I have read that there are about 800 utilities across the country that offer some kind of green option to at least use part of one's utility bill to support renewables.

Here in WA state Seattle City Light and Puget Sound Energy both offer an 25%, 50% and 100% option. For about $15 a month, we have gone 100% renewable, even including the estimated car usage. We just signed up and I still feel like I'm in some sort of dream, could this really be true?! I checked and it's not April 1st, it's for real! I've had this dream my entire life, ever since the energy crisis of the 70's, at the formative age of 10. I guess you could say this measures on par with the impact of a major life achievement for me.

I had no idea we'd be able to achieve a virtually carbon neutral transportation option so fast after buying the Leaf!!! I have been worried about how the popularity of electric cars may increase electric production from nuclear and coal, now I see that it might just propel the renewable energy industry forward if the conscious consumers who buy the Leaf choose their sources of electricity wisely.

I just went from being thrilled about this purchase to being elated about our Leaf!

Please pass the below information along to your WA state friends, they can help be part of the energy revolution whether they own an electric car or not.
