As do I. I plan to claim the credit on the $125 I paid to an electrician, plus $30 or so in parts I purchased, to have a 14-50 receptacle installed in my garage for the EVSE that came with my car. Since I am not eligible for a federal EV tax credit, I expect that I will actually get the alternative fueling tax credit next year (unlike in 2011, when the EV tax credit supplanted the alternative fueling credit).

When you file your taxes, fill out Form 8911.

Has anyone else been able to successfully apply for this credit? I tried but for the life of me couldn't find the forum 8911 in my Deluxe tax software. After 30 minutes of looking and 30 minutes on hold with the company :x I was told how to find it by searching for EV tax credit. Well I brought up the forum he found and hung up only to find out seconds later the forum he directed me to wasn't the 8911 but rather the form when you first purchase your EV :x Back on hold again but while on hold I tried searching the companies website for what forms were supported with what version of software you had and the ONLY one I saw that supported 8911 was the most expensive business version :x so pay an extra $50 for software to be able to use this form.....no thanks! I searched the IRS site and found info on 8911 but found no way of just printing out that form. If I had more time I may have looked into it further but the way it was I was on hour 7 and just wanted to finish.

For tax year 2013 I used TurboTax Deluxe edition and it didn't give me any problems claiming the credit. if you are using TT, it should ask you if you bought an EV and/or if you installed an "alternate fueling station" in your home or business, and if you answer yes (and you don't have other issues like AMT) it should print out the proper forms automatically.

Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Tax Credit
NOTE: This incentive originally expired on December 31, 2013, but was retroactively extended through December 31, 2016, by H.R. 2029 (PDF).

Fueling equipment for natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas (propane), liquefied hydrogen, electricity, E85, or diesel fuel blends containing a minimum of 20% biodiesel installed between January 1, 2015, and December 31, 2016, is eligible for a tax credit of 30% of the cost, not to exceed $30,000. Permitting and inspection fees are not included in covered expenses. Fueling station owners who install qualified equipment at multiple sites are allowed to use the credit towards each location. Consumers who purchased qualified residential fueling equipment prior to December 31, 2016, may receive a tax credit of up to $1,000. Unused credits that qualify as general business tax credits, as defined by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), may be carried backward one year and carried forward 20 years. For more information about claiming the credit, see IRS Form 8911, which is available on the IRS Forms and Publications website. (Reference Public Law 114-113; 26 U.S. Code 30C and 38; and IRS Notice 2007-43 (PDF))

What a bunch of crap! After wasting another couple hours I still have nothing to show for this form! I believe I should have gotten something like $400 back but I give up! Thanks to those of you who tried but it just doesn't look like it's going to work for me.
I found and tried to complete that form 8911 but one of the last lines said it required me to complete a AMT forum, OK a PIA but I found it and started filling it out, only to be told I again needed something I didn't have :x and this is where I quit. Apparently to use this form(AMT forum what is required for 8911 form) one needs to also itemize deductions and use a schedule A. Well I don't itemize or use a schedule A, case closed, done. It would have been nice and I was willing to fill out several forms I didn't otherwise need but itemizing is not something I'm willing to do! Why the hell the forum 8911 didn't just say upfront one needed to also fill out the AMT form and finally itemize using schedule A to use this credit? I don't know why but for me anyway, the whole thing was a exercise in futility :( and no, the AMT instructions don't give any options if you don't itemize, do they just assume everyone does

It's not required to itemize deductions to fill out the AMT form. Read it again.

Otherwise you could avoid paying AMT by not itemizing?

Line 3 of form 6251(AMT form):

"Line 3—Taxes

Enter the amount of all taxes from Schedule A (Form 1040), line 9, except any generation-skipping transfer taxes on income distributions.

Be sure to include any state and local general sales taxes from Schedule A, line 5.
Form 1040NR. If you are filing Form 1040NR, enter the amount of all taxes from Schedule A (Form 1040NR), line 1, except any generation-skipping transfer taxes on income distributions."

Not trying to be dense but I don't see any way without Schedule A to get past a part that requires Schedule A and gives no alternative :?

I haven't mailed my taxes yet so if there is a workaround without actually having to itemize I'd be open to it but I will be mailing my taxes tomorrow, with or without the 8911 credit. I'd like it but man they make it hard to get :(
