I just got a 2017 S with quick charger package and had my electrician install a NEMA 14-50 outlet on my garage wall in anticipation of getting a level 2 EVSE. Seems like juicebox is priced right, but curious if anyone has it or can compare it to anything else.
 
Can't really compare it to anything but ours works great. We also have the Nema 14-50. Completely wifi controlled and future proofed if the next leaf has a bigger charger. Happy with ours. It charges both our EV's.

I have a few at work. They work well with a fleet.We have charged off a generator with a ground led, to get a car back to the yard. lots to add on if you want. Good customer service. Works well, the two units at my yard charge 6 cars a day, every day with no problems...
 
Yes, I am another happy customer. Love the WiFi connectivity and reporting from it. So glad I got this as I can charge my Tesla at the faster rate supported by Tesla (though it is primarily used to charge the Leaf).
 
Didn't realize the price of the JuiceBox 40 Pro had dropped down to $600, that is a great deal for a "smart" Wi-Fi enabled EVSE!

I agree, the new Black & Gold case is a real improvement on the rather utilitarian grey aluminum case it replaced. I have an even older Juicebox, the Premium with a nice black anodized finish, still working after all these years. Even though my Premium lacks WiFi what I like about is it's tiny RF remote to adjust things like output current, etc. AFAIK the only way to adjust the new Juiceboxes is with a smartphone.

The only way to adjust it OR get any status information. It's kind of unique, AFAIK, in not even having basic LED indicators. But I guess that makes it easier for them to do this:

I could say that the network status info more than makes up for it, but really, I still want my blinkenlights. :) I don't think I could cope with the non-"Pro" JuiceBox.
 
another happy 40 pro owner here. no problems, rock solid. 2.4GHz wifi is the only minor complaint i could come up with.
 
Just got the Juicebox Pro 40A about 1 month ago. Greatest thing. Charges in 1-2 hours, WIFI is nice as its configured to send emails, allows me to control with cell phone when and how it charges.
 
I'm not trying to be a jerk, but there's no way you can do anything close to a full charge in less than 2 hours...

While the Juicebox might be rated for 40A output, your 2013 SL has a 6.6 kW onboard charger so that's the max charging rate it will accept. Also, as the pack approaches a full charge, it throttles the charging rate so the final 20% takes longer than one might expect.

So, if you want to charge from LBW (approx 18% SOC) to full, you need to add at least 16 kWh of charge to the pack. At a steady rate of 6.6 kW, you are looking at 2-1/2 hours minimum (16/6.6 = 2.42 hours) which assumes no rate throttling and no efficiency loss. In reality, it's closer to 3 hours...
 
I thought the same thing, but then when re-reading R1200RT's post I noticed they didn't say from a low SOC. Lots of people don't wait until LBW but instead like to top off near mid SOC. At 50% SOC with a 24kwh battery and a 27.5a EVSE(yes anything over 27.5a is basically ignored, even by a 6.6kw charger Leaf)you could be up to 100% in less than 2hrs(I like to figure basically +30%/hr max). So in that vein, their statement would be correct, but not from a low SOC :)
 
Yeah, I figured as much too but my concern is that some newbie in the future would read that and buy the Juicebox 40A model, with a false expectation about how long a full charge will take.

That's why I posted back, just in case that happens.

Dhaww, geez, I love you guys. :mrgreen: This thread just gave our whole team a big batch of warm fuzzies! We've made a lot of progress since the beginning, and it's important to keep them all running, even those that were made back while we were still finding our footing. :lol: Though we can't support them forever, we've still got a few tricks up our sleeves for the real old ones (like the black cylinder ones - though a bit of a pain to work on!). The new ones are really quite a marvel, and there are always great new things in the works. Truly a great thing to hear so many happy stories, both old and new!

We all hope everyone is happy with their JuiceBoxes, and if not, we always try our best to help.

We wouldn't hesitate to get another juicebox. What we would love to see is something small and portable and chimp simple like the Duosida 16 amp 240 volt unit...and just as cheap. We have decided against the EVSE upgrade unit as it is pricier to have our OEM EVSE upgraded than to buy whole new unit. We have tried to contact them a number of times but they don't answer phone or email so it's not a situation I want to be in if something goes wrong. Hopefully our juice box guys will develop something simple, small and cheap as a spare kind of emergency unit. I know it's tough to be in every market though. Cool thing about juicebox is they answer the phone and emails...fast.

Which means one could basically say: "I love my OEM tricklecharger, since I can charge the car to 100% in just 30 minutes!"

Oh no you don't... I expect you to keep mine working until my LEAF dies and I figure I got 10 more years for that. Sure you might blame my substandard assembly for any future problems, but I can fix my work and I expect you to fix yours :D

I did this yesterday, actually .. 16.354 kWh in 3 hours 11 minutes 22 seconds as reported by my Juicebox Pro 40 last night :D

jjeff, you would be correct. I rarely if at all let it get below 20% SOC, the lowest I think I have taken it to is around 12%-15%. And I rarely charge it to 100%, regularly it gets charged to 80%. Only on Saturday and Sunday when the wife and I do lots of driving do we ever charge it to 100% SOC.

And the circuit it is connected to is a 250V with 60Amp breaker, but the EVSE is configured with the circuit amperage of 50A even though as you pointed out the Leaf ignores anything over 27.5Amp.
