I needed to get a couple of others things done so had the campaign for the capacity gauge reprogram done at the same time today...

Very interesting! I am now showing 11 capacity bars where before I had 10! We'll see what an overnight 100% charge brings...

I'm going to do a range check this weekend and will let everyone know the results...

They put the car on the charger while working on it so I can't comment on the Gom...

Interestingly though, my 80% charge level now seems to be showing about 10 more gids than I used to have for that charge level...

Not so much interested in whether you have more bars. But if you have more range (or should that be if the car thinks it has more range?), that would be good news!

forgive my ignorance but whats a GID

Very interesting, thank you Tom! Hieuous, for a glossary of terms, please try the Wiki: http://www.mynissanleaf.com/wiki/index.php?title=Glossary" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

That should reduce the warranty claims significantly :| A little software change just saved Nissan a bundle. :roll:

Although we're getting off-topic and that list helped me on a couple of items, I've often wondered what words the abbreviated term "CHAdeMo" was comprised of, since it's so odd-looking. Here's the answer: http://www.chademo.com/01_What_is_CHAdeMO.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

"CHAdeMO" is an abbreviation of "CHArge de MOve," equivalent to "charge for moving" and is a pun for "O cha demo ikaga desuka" in Japanese, meaning "Let's have a tea while charging" in English.

I recommend having some "green" tea ;) ...and adding CHAdeMo to the wiki listing.

[OT] The phrase means "Would you like some tea?" No charging involved unless you are considering the caffeine in it. [/OT]

Edit: The language police (my wife) got me. The above translation should be "Would you like some tea or...?" indicating something else like it. Without "demo" it would translate as above.

That's pretty good, 91040 - 'cause I get charged up on caffeine every morning (I took the quote directly from the link, so not my translation)! :lol:

I've just returned from the dealer (Mossy Nissan Kearney Mesa), where they performed my obligatory 2yr battery check. My odometer read 13,340. Naturally, the battery checked out @ 5 stars all the way, as expected. The Leaf specialist (Mark Baker) did the service. He's a super guy, and obviously very knowledgeable regarding the Leaf. He also informed me that he could complete the latest recall software service (P3227, REPROG NTB13-O61I0) if I wished, so I authorized him to do so. The whole process took about 2hrs. As expected, there was no charge for any of this service. I declined the complimentary car wash, and asked him to leave the tire pressure as is @ 44psi. I received a "Battery Information Sheet" which, of course, doesn't really tell you anything in detail about the traction battery. I went in with 4 bars and 34mi on the GOM---came out with the same. I noted that my trip back home (8mi) resulted in the loss of only 1 bar, which is a bit unusual, based upon my past experience under the same driving conditions. With a combination of local/FWY driving, it looks like I should easily go 60+ miles on my usual 80% charge, before reaching LBW. Of course, I have optimum conditions here in SAN: 70-75 degrees daytime---60-65 degrees at night--Always garaged overnight--44psi tire pressure---and I never pretend that I'm competing in the Indy 500 when I drive.

I don't have a GID meter, so I can't really accurately measure what effect, if any, the recall software has on the SOC indicators.
BTW: I have nothing but KUDOS for the folks @ Mossy, Kearney Mesa. I am a very happy Leaf owner, and expect to drive this car for many years. :)

I don't think he'll like being called Heinous :? (it's hieuous)...

This seems to confirm the speculation I made last year that the degradation was very exaggerated by bad programming in the LBC (Battery Controller). Many people disagreed with me on this, claiming that if the range wasn't there, then the pack must be degraded. I contended that the LBC was artificially limiting the use of the slightly degraded pack in a way that drastically reduced range over the actual degradation.

Let's hope I am indeed correct and that this restores some lost autonomy in people's LEAFs with some degradation.

I also still contend that Nissan did the right thing by not including TMS (Active Thermal Management) in the LEAF's design. However, I think they should have not pushed the car in extreme climates. If Nissan had chose to include TMS in the LEAF's battery, it would not have as much advantage as many suspect, and it would increase cost and decrease autonomy.

I firmly believe that in less than a handful of years the chemistry will improve enough to make TMS all but obsolete except in rare exceptional circumstances, and there will be no need to put in mass-market vehicles.

I sure hope this is true. Losing one bar, and about 20 miles of usable range, after only 11 months and 8,300 miles was pretty brutal.
