Hi All,

On the surface it appears that Gen 2 batteries suffer less capacity degradation for the same mileage than Gen 1 batteries. I know they changed the chemistry for better heat durability but what about normal durability. Was this also imroved? Is this the general consensus out there in Leafland?

IF by "Gen 1" you mean the 2011 & 2012 Leafs, and by "Gen 2" you mean the 2013+ Leaf, then you are mostly right. Beginning with Leafs built in April (not January!) of 2013, Nissan seems to have started using an improved electrolyte mix that better resists both time-related and heat-related degradation than the earlier version. It still degrades when hot, just not as much. It degrades much more slowly over time if it doesn't get hot for long periods. It's an open question whether the "Lizard Pack" introduced in late 2014 is actually different from the 4/'13+ batteries.
