...charging port as the Nissan factory 120VAC charger thing plugs into!!

Dunno?

Good morning John. I'm not sure if this is a statement or a question. If a question, then yes and no. The car end is the same and the other end (the electrical supply end) will depend on what end came with the clipper creek EVSE. Do you already have it?

Yes, I have the Clipper Creek 240VAC charging thing plugged into 240VAC, but I was 100% surprised when the car end of the Clipper Creek charging thing did not plug into the BIG charging port on my Leaf! Plugs into the SMALL port on my Leaf (same as the Nissan factory 120VAC charger thing did!) and appears to be charging it too. I ASSUME from 240VAC (L2) as that's what the Cliiper Creek charging thing's plugged into.

You should know this by now. The smaller port found on all Leafs is for L-1 (120 volt) and L-2 (208-240 volt) charging. The large, optional port is for 400+ volt DC charging.

You have it right John. Any AC source wether it be 120 or 240 will plug into the right hand port via a j1772 connecter. It uses the internal charger of the car to rectify and charge the DC battery.

The big port on the left is for a DC charge supply like a Chademo fast charger. This is already a DC current and goes directly to the battery without going thru the internal charger.

Hope that helps.

Aha!! Makes sense now. Yeah yeah, I know I SHOULD read the manual, but...I'm an engineer (CS and EE) and you know how WE are!

Thanks!

For DC (usually fast) charging, Leaf can have optional http://www.chademo.com/ inlet.

John Kuthe...

Last night, first time on my new L2 charger, and this AM earlier than I wanted to get up INF-MPG is FULLY CHARGED!!! :) Cool!

I need to get a little light over the Clipper Creek charger plug-in thing. Everything seems made of BLACK PLASTIC! Hardest to see at night!

I'll tell ya!!! I LOVE getting up each morning and having my Nissan Leaf FULLY CHARGED!

Charging on 120VAC was cool, but 240VAC L2 charging is COOLER!! :)
