Hi Folks,

Just now learning that Leaf owners and lessers received an EZ-Charge card for free charging. I don’t have one, and got it used (‘11 SL). Anyone ever heard of getting a replacement card for used owners? I’m afraid to ask the dealer as they may automatically disqualify me as a used owner.

The free charging program is only available with a newly purchased or leased Leaf and is time limited (currently 2 years, if I remember correctly). The stations that participate in the free charging program are also limited. Used Leafs do not qualify for the free charging program.

There is a thread somewhere on here. The charging card is available to used Leaf owners, but the only advantage it offers is the need to only carry one card around instead of one for each charging provider.

The program didn't even start until 2014. Nobody who bought or lease prior to the program start date was eligible. :( My former leased '13 was never eligible nor is the used '13 Leaf I own now (its original in-service date began about a month before former leased car).

It's an incentive to get people to buy/lease. Makes little sense for Nissan to give it to people who already did that w/o the incentive.

And yes, it's only for the 1st 2 years.

I believe baustin is right re: the one card benefit.

OK, so it still sounds beneficial to have one single card that works on all the networks. Even if I need to pay. So I'm wondering if I could still get one and how much it would cost to use.

I don't like EVGo's available plans. Seem's too high-priced to me, but I want to find something that works on the Chademo that is cost effective.

Beats me. Seems not worth the effort or even anything more than a very minimal cost given https://www.ez-charge.com/participating-networks/. For me:
AV - n/a for me (too far) and my current Leaf has no CHAdeMO. Would be useful if you intend to use http://www.westcoastgreenhighway.com/electrichighway.htm in OR and WA.
Blink - have had a card my 1st Leaf in July 2013. Have used it 0 times.
Chargepoint - have 2 of them. I use this at work almost every weekday.
EVgo - got a card maybe a year ago less for free due to an offer. Have used it 0 times.
Greenlots - n/a. I don't live anywhere near there.

If you buy a newer used Leaf and the original buyer did not get the card, then you can apply for the card. they link it to the vin.

not true, completely... there were several 2012's in various regions that got NCTC. It wasn't available when I got my 2011 and I just missed qualifying for it on my 2013... but did "finally" get it on my 2016.

Huh? Do you have a reference for the 2012 case? Look at the dates at

I can say I'm quite sure it wasn't even a thing nor announced when I leased my 1st Leaf at end of July 2013.

Absolutely not true. My in-service was 9-2014 and I just got my EZ card in June... and I'm not being charged. I am also the second owner, and I did not buy it from a Dealer.

I already took down my car number...

Pretty sure the program started as a pilot from selected dealers around the country for the 2012 MY IOW, not nationwide could be have been nothing more than a regional sales tool. May not have had the same name but it worked the same way. Obviously there was more L2 coverage for that version.

FYI; I used a Blink L2 last week and when I unplugged it stated I had the first hour free and billed me...uhhh? hmmm, don't remember now. have to look it up but it was far less than the 39 cents per kwh...
