Latest LeafSpy compatible OBD2

Sat Sep 09, 2017 4:22 pm

I purchased a Veepeak VP01 on Amazon, and it stopped working after the second day. Tried multiple cars and apps. I ended up returning it, was going to purchase another but they raised the price on me so I refuse to pay more for the same type of hardware.

Anyone know of others that are under 20 bucks like the Veepeak?

For Android or iOS?

If you search for posts by Turbo3 with keywords like compatible or recommend, you should find some. (I'm typing on a phone now.)

On the Google Play store, the Leaf Spy app description includes notes about supported OBD2 dongles. I would guess the Apple Store description would include similar notes.

At https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/leafspy ... 76861?mt=8, I only saw "the LELink Bluetooth 4.x LE OBDII adapter (recommended) or a WiFi OBDII adapter".

From the Google Play app description, assuming it's current info:

Due to a recent cost reduction (and feature reduction) many of the cheap ELM327 OBDII Bluetooth adapters from Asia no longer work with the Leaf and report themselves to be version 2.1. The previously recommended Bluetooth Konnwei KW902 OBDII adapter is also no longer recommended as a batch of defective ones have made their way into the market. These will basically short out your Leaf's CAN bus (or any CAN bus they are plugged into). But when removed do not seem to cause any lasting damage.

With the release of version 0.39.97 LeafSpy Pro now supports two Bluetooth 4.x LE approved adapters. The recommended one is the LELink available from Amazon. Bluetooth 4.x LE has the advantage of not needing to be paired and lower power from both the Android device and the Leaf. The LELink is highly recommended and also works with the iOS version of LeafSpy Pro.

So, yeah - the LELink is the recommended dongle by @Turbo3 and so I guess no dongles less than $20 are officially approved.
