Hi all,

The cargo cover attaches to to plastic knobs on the back hatch. Both of them on my car have now broken. Has anyone figured out a good fix for this? Thanks.

Seems like they're just molded into the panel. Your best bet will probably be to take those panels off to make sure, and look for an appropriate fastener. Do a google image search of "standoffs" to get an idea. If aesthetics aren't critical for you, you could probably make do with some type of eyebolt. Keep in mind that with any of these fastener fixes, the plastic panel is thin so I'd use a good-sized washer on either side of the panel to distribute the strain over a larger area. So it would be fastener-nut-washer-panel-washer-nut. Keep eye safety in mind. Try to avoid anything that would present a hazard to someone poking their head around back there.

If you really want to avoid removing and drilling the panels, one of those adhesive-backed hooks might do the trick, but I'm not sure how they'd hold up in the heat of a parked car. I did use some 3M "industrial velcro" to hold up our toll transponder and it's done well.

Or, you might be able to get those panels cheap from salvage.

That's fairly reasonable. It usually doesn't cross my mind to check retail for things like this

Those plastic nipple things are weaker than a newborn's erection.

I would first like to see what is under the plastic panel.. See how much distance there is to the strong sheet metal...

Then you can drill a hole through the plastic and the sheet metal, and screw in a metal screw so that it is only sticks out as short as possible to hook on the string from the shelf.

That would be the easiest and the strongest repair... Don't bother looking at Nissan parts sites...

Keep in mind that using a hard material that doesn't break easily anywhere in the interior can potentially be hazardous in an accident -- and plays a role in car manufacturers like Nissan's choice of materials for something like these supports that stick out somewhat. Also note that the current Leaf owner's manual warns not to place ANYTHING on the tonneau cover because of the danger of it flying forward in an abrupt stop -- so no reason for Nissan to make those two supports overly strong to support just the lightweight tonneau.

BTW, what caused the two supports to break?

Thanks very much. I have a 2014, so $24 for each panel is very reasonable. I don't see a place to specify a color though. Under Other Name - it says Trim TGate Brown. My Leaf has a black interior. Is this part the same color for all Leafs?

Does anyone have an idea how this part is removed? I just looked at it, and I see no screws, clips, etc. I guess it must just snap off somehow?

Also, in my black interior, this part is grey or beige color.
