Greetings,
My 2015 Leaf Model S charging timer does not work reliably. I set it to start charging at 2 AM. I want it to start at 2 AM and then it will be about 80% when I leave for work at 6 AM.

However, even though I have the charging timer set, when I plug it in, the car starts charging right away.

Should I take the car into Nissan for service?

Thanks,

The S does not have a start timer it's an end timer as I recall. You set it for your end time so set it for about 5AM.

Correct, and to charge the car to less than 100% and a departure time of 6am I'd probably set your timer time for 8am?? The timer is very conservative, generally finishing to 100% 1-2hrs before the time you set, sometimes even earlier.

I would expect with Level 1 (12 amps at 120 Volts) then if you set the timer to end charging about 6 hours after the time you plan to depart (say, about noon), then it should be at about 80% when you unplug at 6am. You'll have to play with it to find what works for you. Yes, it's silly.

In my case (12 amps, 240 volt L2 charger), I need to set the timer for about 4 hours later than departure. My car takes about 2 hours to do the bulk of charging from 80% to 100%, plus about 2 hours to "balance the cells".
