I just read Nissan LEAF's owner manual and it talks about using power switch to put car into LOCK or OFF mode.

I understand what OFF is.. but what is LOCK? What's the difference?

The manual is pretty confusing but my guess is that LOCK is used to ensure the car is in Park once the car is shut off. At least that's what I'm getting from reading the blurb in the manual. I think I need to try it out in the car to see if it makes more sense.

Think it means ON versus ACC mode. Pushing the power button without pressing the brake puts you into ACC mode. Depending on how you have the door lock programming, they may lock/unlock.

Also, I know a couple of times I've forgotten to put the car into park first, then push the power button to turn the car off. I've stopped, then pushed the power button. When doing this, it puts the car into park, unlocks the doors (as per my programming) and turns it off in one shot.

Maybe this is what you are referring to?
