I was reading an article. They were saying new refabricated battery packs were about $3,000 in cost for the Nissan electric cars. Does anyone know anything about this? If so, what is the life or warranty on the Nissan electric car refabricated battery packs? Is it just the 24 kilowatt hour battery packs are these being done on?

Link to article is here: https://electrek.co/2018/03/26/nissan-leaf-battery-pack-replacement-program/

Until it becomes available in NA, it's pretty useless for anyone outside of Japan.
Yep. Still Japan only, AFAIK.

I'm guessing we already had another thread on this. I thought there was one article stating the "rebuilt" packs would have 10 capacity bars, at min.

10 bar capacity battery is 71% capacity according to my calculations. For a 40 kilowatt hour battery that is not bad. Now for a 24 kilowatt hour battery that is not very good. It is too bad the refurbished batteries are only available in Japan.

Is it true that the new replacement 40 kilowatt hour battery for the 2018 Nissan Leaf costs $7,800?

IIRC the refurbs show 11 or 12 bars. Since the purchaser does not know how much of the 11th bar is available it works out to these batteries having at least 10 (full) bars.

For the 24 kWh packs the first bar is ~ 16% and the 2nd bar is ~ 6%,
So the refurb will have at least ~ 78% capacity of new.

My opinion, that stinks. And I suspect these refurbs will age even faster than the original since they are amalgams of "good" cells from multiple packs. If the multiple attempts to make these kind of refurbs for the Prius is anything to go buy, they last up to two years.
