According to this story 453 cars are the total in the U.S.A. so somebody is off by 1000 cars. http://venturebeat.com/2011/04/13/energy-dept-1m-electric-cars/

Not sure where 453 came from but it's widely known that total sales through March of the Leaf are 471. That number doesn't count the 1000 or so cars sitting in port getting prepped for delivery or any April deliveries.

How 'bout a quick search first, eh?

The article says only 453 stateside. If Long Beach is still in the states somebody is off on their numbers.

I think the Port of Long Beach has "Foreign Trade Zone" areas that give manufacturers the ability to store, build, etc. without counting the product as "delivered". If so, there could be 1000's of Nissan cars at the port that would not count as being "delivered" until they left the port. So, physically, you are correct -- those cars are in the US. But in the eyes of Nissan, they might not be "delivered" to the US, yet.

This is a just guess - I'm not an international trade lawyer.
