The EBS system in our one month old 2018 Leaf S started malfunctioning right after purchase. At first it would just present a warning (System Malfunction - See Owner's Manual) that the system had turned off. I ignored it at first, but when the system started braking, sometimes severely, for no apparent reason, I took it into the Nissan dealer. It's been in the shop for 5 days. Just yesterday, the dealership Leaf specialist was able to replicate the issue and is now consulting with Nissan technicians to fix the issue. I suspect it may be a malfunctioning radar sensor since I have seen on two occasions a message saying Radar Sensor Blocked. Has anyone else experienced similar issues? I will update when the problem is solved.

Did you ever get a resolution to this problem - ie how did they fix it. There are several people on this forum - myself included - who are having very similar problems in 2019.

Here is the Update I posted in June of 2018 regarding the matter. Find the Leaf Defects topic and discussion, here.

After replicating the random heavy braking issue, the dealership Leaf specialist consulted with Nissan technicians because there were no codes to indicate a problem. The technicians told him that this is only the second car that has displayed the random slamming on of the brakes. He replaced the radar sensor and, after a week, all seems to be working fine. No more warnings that the AEB system has shut off and no more random braking issues. It was in the shop for two weeks and the mechanic put 80 miles on the car during that time. He said after he experienced the random full brake application, Nissan technicians told him to not release the car until it had been fixed and fully tested.

It has worked perfectly over the last 14 months. Love the car. Fancy Highlander now sits in the garage.
