@Leaver I mentioned it before, but if you want to know for sure whether your LEAF has the brake related software fix, just lookup your VIN on the Nissan Recall check website:

https://www.nissanusa.com/recalls-vin/#/#/Home

Any recall perfomed by Nissan is tracked, so if your LEAF shows that recall as outstanding then you can almost guarantee it hasn't been updated.

Thank you alozzy for the link... I will be sure to do that.

Cheers

Almost the exact same thing happened to me just now! It's about 3 degrees F and I drove to a doctors appointment with no problem. When I came out 45 minutes later my brakes were acting just as yours did. I left the car in the parking lot and walked home. Trying to figure out what to do next. It's supposed to warm up tomorrow, I'm hoping I'll be able to drive it home then.

Read up on the recall info already provided earlier in this post thread:

http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=25145&start=10#p515911

Then, check your VIN against Nissan's recall database to see if your LEAF had the software update done. The link to the website for the recall check was also provided earlier in this post thread.

Short version: reread the existing info in this thread, no one likes having to repost the same info over and over again...

Same thing with our 2017 Nissan Leaf SV tonite in temperatures between 0F and -5F. Car worked fine driving 15 min to dinner and then an hour later, had the brake issue (almost no brakes) when we went to leave. Left the car at the restaurant and had a friend pick us up. Will check on the car tomorrow when high is supposed to be almost 20F. I looked up our VIN and it said "There are no open recalls or campaigns associated with this vehicle."

Sounds like the software remedy that Nissan provided hasn't actually addressed the problem in that case.

It would be a good idea to submit a complaint to the NHTSA:

If this is the one that cycles the brake booster repeatedly in cold temps, I agree. What is needed is a booster unit that doesn't ice up.

I would try insulating the brake servo assembly, as perhaps that will prevent it from getting too cold.

Not sure what would work best as you'd like have to experiment. Perhaps one of these...
