In Europe, the time vehicle spent in service is not counted in warranty. Some people had their vehicle spend more than half a year in the shop waiting for parts. Warranty halts for that time.

Let’s hope Nissan has rectified this with the new 40-kWh LEAF

What can really magically change? The Lizard pack was just a marginal improvement if any at all given they changed capacity bar loss points. The 30 kWh pack is a total disaster. Is the 40 kWh pack any better? Who knows, I'll check in after 2 years.

One thing is clear and that is Nissan did make changes in BMS to address degradation and yeah, A LOT of complaining about charge rate slowdowns which is a bit funny since the rates of the 40 kwh LEAF now matches the rates of the TMS enabled Chevy Bolt.

Oh wait! That isn't true... One thing that the LEAF does is bases its charge rate on starting conditions of the battery so you can start a charge with pack temps below 100º and still get well over 40 KW at SOC below 60%.

I watched a Bolt charging at 130 amps on EVGO at Tacoma Mall which was cool but then the Bolt hit like 55% and the charge rate dropped to 23 KW... Didn't really see it happen. It was 130 amps, I was talking to someone else and just happened to glance back at the station and it was at 62 amps, all in less than 2-3 minutes.

I thought WTF!! I initially blamed it on EVGO and their per minute money grab pricing scheme but seems that is just how Bolts charge?

Tell that to the Goofs on the forum who have been spouting for years that quick charging does not affect battery life.
Oh, wait ... never mind

I just recently lost the 3rd capacity bar around 28,300 miles in November 2017. What date will Nissan use for the battery warranty? According to the Carfax report, it arrived to a dealer in Grapevine, TX on March 26, 2013 and was sold to the first owner on May 28, 2013. Do I have until the end of May 2018 to hopefully lose the 4th bar?

Still hoping for that 4th bar drop. Being unseasonably cold in ATL isn't helping. I also lost a month of driving when my Leaf was damaged at the dealership and it took them a month to fix. it. I still have until the end of May. Currently stats:

Over the weekend I noticed my 4th bar drop. I needed that to happen three months ago! I will send the numbers once I plug the Leaf Spy in if that helps any of the members.

Good luck all that are close to the 4th bar drop before the warranty period expires.

I wonder if calling Nissan customer service will do any good as the warranty period is up in my case. I bet they just laugh in my face...

My guess is you won't get there. You have a year to go and the guy that posted above my post has an aHr at 42 and no fourth bar drop. It looks like from your numbers is the drop isn't going to happen no matter how hard you drive it.

You do have a good year so take it to Arizona and beat the crap out of it...ha Air conditioning on full blast, heat on the seats, steering wheel heat, take off the eco mode and drive it like you've rented it. Bring the car to turtle mode and leave it fully charged on the hot pavement. How about using mirrors on the ground to point towards the underside of the car? Still having a 5 point drop in aHr in a year period might be impossible but I am no expert.

Sorry to say but like my numbers, I was hoping that 4th bar would drop during the warranty period. Of course, three months later it drops.

Anyone out there have the process to submit to BBB on any filing I can do or if this is worth the effort or is it futile?

heat on the seats, steering wheel heat

You are confusing torturing the car with torturing the occupants. Seat and wheel heaters do nothing to contribute to degradation.

It's futile. You are asking for something that Nissan never promised.

RIP, 11th bar

Sun Jul 29, 2018 10:18 pm

I hardly knew ye. But I knew it was basically a 10-bar Leaf when I bought it about 2 months ago.

Stats, for the curious:

2013 Leaf SV (built in 2/2013, so probably no lizard battery)
odometer: 53,915
AHr: 49.62
SoH: 75.87
Hx: 68.31

Stats 2 months ago:
odometer: 53,215
AHr: 51.28
SoH: 78.41
Hx: 71.41

I hope the downward trend doesn't continue quite so quickly. But it is what it is. And even its limited range is plenty for my needs.
