Fellow Leaf Owners,

We have a 2014 Leaf and there has been a steady decline in the number of miles we get per charge. The first year, I would say we averaged around 95, and if the weather was accommodating, the charge would be closer to 103-5. The second year, it hovered between 85-90. Now, a full charge averages 72-5 miles, with the occasional 80.

Having said all that, I haven't lost any bars. How do I evaluate this loss and should I be concerned/try to get the battery replaced while it's still under warranty? Or has it not degraded enough to count? When I called the Leaf specialist in our area last year, he chalked it up to the weather, but we moved from Boston (where we spent our first year) to Texas and it doesn't seem like the decline has correlated with either extreme heat or cold but rather been steady throughout the year.

Any thoughts on how to understand this?

Your apparent change in "mileage" is minimal, especially in 2 years of use. When buying the Leaf, you needed to be aware that your driving range will significantly decrease (20-30%) over a number of years.

So your thoughts of getting a new battery, because according to you, you lost 5 miles of range per charge is totally off base, Keep driving, and enjoy your car.....

Sorry--I guess I should clarify. I haven't lost 5 miles per charge--I've lost about 30. On average, I get about 65 miles per charge, so it's down substantially from the 90-100 I got the first year.

Is this still normal?

The 12th bar will stay until the capacity drops to about 84% of original, so I'd say that you have just barely 12 bars (85-87%), and will lose the 12th bar next Spring or Summer. LeafSpy would confirm that. Your range is about the same as mine, although I could never get more than maybe 75 miles from mine.

(The car will state it has about 75 miles when fully charged but it tends to go about 65.)
There's no point in posting guess-o-meter (aka the stupid "distance to empty" on the right) numbers: http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?p=271853#p271853.

Confirm that you're looking at the right set of bars. http://www.electricvehiclewiki.com/File:Scott_3_bars_s.jpg is a 3 capacity bar loser.

Please get Leaf Spy and tell us stats such as AHr, SOH and Hx. GOM numbers are worthless.

If you have range complaints, please answer the questions at http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?p=275421#p275421 in this thread.
