Honestly, save yourself the grief and just accept the fact that NissanConnect/Carwings sucks and isn't worth the headaches...

The number of people having issues with the 3G TCUs is ridiculous and Nissan doesn't seem to be getting ahead of this issue. Early on, I felt that I needed Carwings but having not used it for months now, I don't really miss it. I now pre-heat the car using the climate control timer, which keeps my wife happy.

Even without TCU issues, NissanConnect is unreliable, slow, and provides a pretty limited set of features that haven't changed in years.

Alozzy thanks for the reply. But living in Manitoba remote climate control is very handy. For one I leave at different times. I have had remote start In my ice vehicles for 20 years and and willing to play the game.

I just got mine, it was bought from a dealer who sourced it in the states.

I was able to get set up by calling US nissan support, but I can only get a connection when I drive close to the US border. I was however able to sign in when I was near blaine and that worked fine. Otherwise I get the red slash through the car (No Service).

I thought he 3g/2g issue was prior to 2016 models.

Maybe roaming is fully disabled now?

I believe the 3G upgrade was only available in very late 2016 by which time they were probably only building 2017s so unless your 2016 was upgraded to 3G you likely only have the 2G unit. Having said that, I'm not sure why it would work close to the border so your 2016 might have been updated.

FWIW, I'm in Ottawa (so very unlikely I'm picking up a US tower) and can connect to the car with the app and get updates / turn on charging / heating but my usage hasn't been updated in almost a month.

Success!

About a week ago I received the 3g unit ( purchased from ebay in Arizona ) installed it into my car, took car to the dealership and asked to have it programed. Was told they have to put the old part back in and start over oh well go ahead.i did not mention car is from U.S. After just under an hour got the car back was told this is the first upgrade they have done, went home called nissan they said they could not find vin on U.S. site then found it on Canadian site asked to transfer to U.S. site ok buy can't guarantee it will work. They said may take 24-48 hours to connect well it took abou 2 hours entered username and password and happy happy joy joy! I'm using leaf manager to turn on heat and get emails from the car through Nissan servers. The only way to get leaf manager to connect was by choosing Japan/asia servers.

Cost $300 can. For part $125 can. for dealership not cheap but I can turn on heat remotely its -21c here now so for me worth it so far.

I just picked up a 2016 in the same situation. US import and no connection to Nissan in Canada. I'm wondering if you ever got it solved or if you figured out how to solve it?

You should be eligible for a free TCU upgrade on a 2016. A Canadian Nissan dealership should be authorized to do the work on a 2016.

Having said that, i thought the 2016s already had a 3G TCU from the factory. Can anyone confirm?
