Integrate "dash cam" feature

Wed Feb 11, 2015 9:26 pm

This should almost be standard these days, to help validate damage claims for insurance, behavior of other drivers, document officer stops, etc.Provide ability to install whatever amount of memory you want to record the moments leading up to an event or incident. At least have a system capable of recording views fore and aft. Front view camera can be integrated into the rear view mirror. Integrate aft view into that "middle tail light" that is up high.

I've shared this sentiment for many years now. While I utilize after market options to have at least a front facing dash cam in all my cars (and motorcycles too), I'm surprised I haven't seen any manufactuers intergrating cameras for this purpose. With a good number of cars now available, there are many cameras already part of the manufacture, so we are nearly there, go the extra step and add recording.

I use DailyRoads Voyager on old Android phones (with usb power attached) I have laying around to serve as dash cams at the moment. Would love to see the continued evolution of cameras being a part of the car design.

Here's a great podcast by Steve Leg to on the legalities of dash cams that just came out yesterday. He's a lawyer specialising in lemon cases and other things related to automobiles. If you're considering a dash cam, you should watch this podcast.

Chevy has offered it as an option on the Corvette for a couple of years now...

I have one hardwired to the back of the dimmable mirror. Did this for both my cars after someone in front of us went in reverse, while we were stopped, then claimed we rear ended them.

Just set up BVR (background video recorder) on the old android phone I use for Leaf Spy, so I have both on the same device.
Agree it would be nice to be integrated with the car tho.
