Now that the build it option is there on the Nissan site to configure your own, I checked their current configs. None of the models show that they have bluetooth streaming capability. All models have bluetooth phone system (Bluetooth® Hands-free Phone System [*]).

I would assume if the bluetooth calling works then bluetooth streaming works. Probably a bad assumption but my "guess" is yes.

I think it is just not mentioned. Though calling & music are different, I'm sure they will both work.

I would assume anything coming out in the last few years would have it but my 2009 Camry had bluetooth phone capabilities and not streaming audio...

I sell the LEAF in the San Francisco Bay Area and I've delivered several of each model of the 2013 LEAF. The SV and the SL definitely include bluetooth streaming, but I have yet to get it to work in an S.

Nissanproduct.info lists Bluetooth streaming as Standard on the LEAF S, so I've been assuming it's there and I just haven't found how to activate it. Without the navigation system, many things that were easy to do through the menu system are a now less obvious. And with the cars selling about as fast as we get them in, I haven't had time to fully explore the system.

Remarkably, the owner's manual doesn't list Bluetooth in the index. That's why I came here, hoping someone had figured it out. :D

If it does not have navigation, you need to hit the phone button on the steering wheel to listen to the commands to set up Bluetooth. Give it a try.

I just took delivery two days ago of my "S". The car and my Android phone now communicate by Bluetooth for phone calls. I have played around a little, but I haven't found any way to stream music from the phone to the stereo by Bluetooth. I don't see anything in the manual that addresses streaming audio by Bluetooth.

Leaf (peculiarly) needs to be paired again with the phone for music. This is with '11 SL.

Yes but if thre is no Bluetooth option in the radio, it won't stream music but will handle calls.

Enjoy the ride,

Does the 2013 S-trim have an AUX button? Does it have an aux input? Since you hit AUX and it cycles through iPod, AUX, BT streaming and such... that would be the first place I would go. On our 2012 SL, there was no special setup for BT streaming. The real question is if the BT module is in the radio, or if like many cars there is a separate box. If the latter, then A2DP-streaming is there in the box... it is just a matter of if Nissan hooked up the capabilities to the lesser headunit or not.

I just spent an hour in a LEAF S we just got in. I'm ready to conclude the 2013 LEAF S is NOT capable of Bluetooth streaming (hands-free phone works fine).

I'll try to get confirmation from Nissan. Our dealership has a LEAF training scheduled for March 20th, so I should have a definitive answer by then if not before.

Another data point here. In friend's 'S' phone audio works fine with Bluetooth but not music. I guess the Aux pin should be used as a substitute.

It's not there as far as I can tell. The AUX button cycles through CD/AUX/USB. I tried going through the voice menu again after connecting my phone, but there is no option I can find to establish streaming audio.

I'm okay with it -- any thing to drive down the price of the stripper model is a good thing (even a tiny thing like this.)

Have to agree with you that Nissan probably disabled this feature purposely. I am guessing a bunch of marketing guys stood around a conference room figuring out how they could produce a low entry price car, then listing all the stuff they could strip out of it to discourage people buying the loss leader. Taking out the heater upgrade was the first poor move, charging functionality the next, and now we discover technology dumb downs. At least the last one does not affect range or mpge. With that said, I love my "strippie", and have been impressed with the audio system, bluetooth, and the USB functionality. It is light years ahead of my 08 honda. A little speaker switharoo and I'm a happy camper.

For the most part, cars meant for the mass market are always going to be a compromise of some sort. It's either jack up the price, or leave out stuff to keep it low.

Remember the car's base price dropped from $35k to $29k practically overnight, so you'd expect they would start taking stuff out. Frankly, I'm surprised about the amount of content that Nissan left IN. For such a drastic price decrease, I would have expected a car with crank windows, manual locking (or at least you have to manually touch the key fob) and definitely no seat heaters.

I'm upset about the lack of bluetooth audio streaming but it didn't stop me from selling my 2012 Prius "C" and picking up a Silver Type S today.
The Prius "C" btw, the newest entry-line hybrid on the market from Toyota that debuted last year at a starting point of $19,000 without any rebates or incentives... had Bluetooth Audio Streaming.

So !@#$% that noise.

The heated seats are kind of cool, though I'm unlikely to get much traction from them in San Diego. Just happy to be done with gasoline.

The $19k Prius C "one" also left out a 60/40 folding rear seat (it's all up or all down), center console, and a smart fob that lets you unlock the doors with the fob still in your pocket or purse. I believe the Leaf S still has those features.

Fair enough, the C "Two" had a center console, though and the "Three" and "Four" had the FOB. You're missing the top basic accessory the Leaf has over my old Prius, though: Visor extensions. How any car in the last 10 years could come without those is beyond me.
