I picked up a OBD II scanner off Amazon and it must be the wrong one. What OBD scanner does everyone else use that will work with an Iphone.

Thank you for the help.

You will need one that connects to the iPhone/iPad/iTouch via WiFi, and not Bluetooth. This is the one I use, but it's unfortunately out of stock:

This one looks identical and says it's compatible with iOS: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NGFWVNA?psc=1

Looks like I'm going to have to purchase that one then. I ended up getting this one

http://www.amazon.com/Super-Wireless-Diagnostic-Scanner-iPhone/dp/B00S5ZXC7A/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1439788514&sr=8-2&keywords=blusmart+obd+wifi

However, When I drove from Cedar Park to Houston some 3 hours away to check out the car I was going to purchase I couldn't get it to connect to the spyleaf. I did get it to connec to the phone, but for some reason the spyleaf all showed 0 on the data side. Very disappointing. Do you believe that this might be a spyleaf issue or a scanner issue?

For use with the app "LeafSpyPro" I purchased an IKKEGOL Vgate iCar3 mini OBDII WiFi scanner tool for about $35 on Amazon. This is a tiny scanner that I just leave in place all the time. It shuts off about 30 minutes after the vehicle does so no residual battery drain. If it matters to you, the device comes in 5 colors.

So far (several weeks) it has worked well, pairing quickly to my iPhone without manual intervention. The documentation that came with the unit offers a free software tool but with "LeafSpyPro" so specifically tuned to my LEAF I haven't bothered to download the free tool.

If you're going to leave an OBDII adapter in place all the time, I recommend using an extension cable. Otherwise there is a good chance you might smack the adapter with your leg as you get in or out of the car, damaging the port.

This is the one I use http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007PAHHWM?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00 I don't leave my adapter in all of the time but on extended drives I will leave the adapter connected. It also makes connecting the adapter so much easier, since I don't have to look under the dash.

Excellent point RonDawg. This is one of the key reasons I chose the iCar3. I didn't want extra cables to deal with or to have to remove the device frequently. The iCar3 is incredibly short and doesn't get in the way of shins either while driving or getting in or out. I'm 6'2" and have no difficulty with the adapter at all. But that's just my wants, YMMV.

Link where Turbo3 the app developer gave info on what he uses ( a LYL and a specific two connector cable ):

I just bought this one and it has paired fine with both my iphone and ipad. Cheapest one I found with prime. It is also small enough that it barely sticks out, nothing to hit my knee on.

While this should certainly work, please note it does not have an automatic shutdown and will consume a bit less than 2 watts all the time, according to the manufacturer. May not be a big deal, but a consideration. Also, Amazon user reviews mention that it gets hot.
